  • Condor usually has a decent selection (Continental, Challenge and Vittoria). I would've thought Mosquito might be worth a look too.

    Helpful, thanks.

  • Cut down to Charlotte st and there is the Firzroy Tavern (Samuel Smiths, so cheap)

    Much obliged

    Beaten to it.

Another recommendation for the Fitzroy here.

  • Building my new bike up, doesn't seem to take a standard rear brake caliper. The bolt is not long enough to get through, and suggestions?

  • Are you trying to fit a caliper designed for use will and Allen-key nut to a frame designed for use with a hex nut?

  • What's the difference?

  • Oh I see. Sorry I was being dumb. No the rear brake bridge is modern and designed to take a recessed allen nut type brake but the hole doesn't seem quite wide enough to fit the nut into the recess

  • Metric and imperial?

  • right, something seems to have formed in the bolt of my cleats on the bottom of my shoes, ive tried hammering it out but its solid as a rock

i need to get the screws out to replace the cleat, can anyone think of a method of getting it out other than a drill, which i dont have

  • probably is a small rock. lever it out with a knife?

  • GT85 and a flathead screwdriver.

You remember that thing which was on all boy scouts' pen knives in the olden days for getting stones out of horses' hooves? That's what you need.

  • He is too young to remember the olden days. An xbox does not come with that stone removing tool.

  • yeap wasnt trying hard enuff, was a stone, got it out

    cheers

  • and yes james is right, even if i have never owned an xbox, i have no idea what tester s on about

  • The problem comes when the brake track gets properly hot. If you don't ride down mountains, you'll probably live.

  • What are my chances of survival if I use a 16H rim for a rear wheel?

  • Will you be riding it?

  • That's the plan.

  • Hmm, it might not directly lead to your death, but you will die.

  • Right, hubs time.

I now run a 7 speed friction set-up, eliminating the cog I don't need and ensuring a decent chainline with a spacer behind the cassette, it drawn to me that a trail hubs with a narrower body would be better, especially with the wider flange.

Trouble is, the Hope one I have my eyes on that can run 6 cog on it have a disc mount, am I out of luck looking for a trail hubs without a disc mount?

  • What are my chances of survival if I use a 16H rim for a rear wheel?

If it's a Shimano Sweet-16 on a solo bike, you will die (but from causes unrelated to your wheel) before the wheel does. Same goes for original 16-spoke Campag Shamal, Shimano WH-7700 or Rolf TdF6. In short, it's perfectly possible to make reliable 16-spoke rear wheels, but since you're even asking, the chances are that your plan isn't as well considered as an integral design as the wheels I've mentioned.

  • Will the wheel survive my death?
