  • It was cold outside today...

Its had me looking at full length tights for the upcoming winter, then I read up on embrocation cream.

Does anyone rate the cream as opposed to tights?

Rides are always between 35-70miles so it's worth the hassle for applying and removing.

    htfu

    Tights over cream though.

  • It doesn't make you any warmer, it's gives the perception of warmth by irritating your skin. Get tights if you want to be warm.

  • And when it does actually get cold, wear women's tights under your cycling tights: added insulation for minimal bulk.

That tip comes straight from the Royal Marines, so come at me bro'...

  • I've been fiddling around with an EBB recently and found a pin spanner to be a bit shit at turning them, as the holes in the BB are much larger than the park pin heads.

The easiest way I have found is to put a screwdriver through one of the holes and turn the cranks around to push against it. I put a bit of bubble wrap in the middle to stop the cranks getting marked. I also held the handle end of the screwdriver with my hand to keep it straight if you know what I mean. Give it a go, its easy.

  • Does anyone know of any tub 27 inch wheels?!

  • It's for the riding around the pringle thing, apparently bikes need to have tubs, but my track bike takes 27inch wheels (it's a bit old)... I could get 700s, but it will look really ugly, and all my other bikes are ugly, I'd like to keep this pretty.

  • When your bike was new, people took their daily-driver 27×1¼" wheels out and fitted normal 28" (700mm) tubulars for the track.

^this is how it's done. with the benfit of meaning you have one fewer tool to take with you when you go touring.

(although I was wondering how this would work with an external bb because (on mine) it looks like the hole would be obscured a little by the cups. something I absent-mindedly pondered while considering upgrades)

  • Drill a new hole innit ;)

  • My brother is a facebook food photo wanker. Love him to bits but it's cringing. And I'm not the only one who thinks so. What can I do?

  • Kill em all

  • Tell him to get instagram, it's much more acceptable on there

  • When I fitted aero bars to my road bike back in may, I found that when the drops were in a good position, the aerobars were uncomfortably low.

So I would like some aero bars that come up of the drop bars a bit, so it's comfortable, but stil I'm in a more aero position that I would otherise be.

make sense or is it misguided logic?

You could just use deeper drops, if you get a comfy position on them, the upper part of the bars and therefore, aero bars will be higher.

Have they published the rules already?

  • 2 questions:

    1. What size frame would my wife need, 5'10", normal proportions, not a T-rex. Looking for a Mixte that we can whack a child seat on the back (hence pref step through).

    2. Her current frame takes 650c wheels (I dunno why either), will a set of 26" wheels I have in the lock up work? Won't bother digging around to find them if not.

    Thanks chaps.

  • I'm reading Three Men on the Bummel by Jerome K Jerome, and one anecdote mentions a man watering the road.

Why would roads need to be watered? Is that something that only needed doing before tarmac, or is it still done in places with less rain and no regard for water wasteage?

Keep dust down? Wash animal shit off the roads?

    No.

The only exception is if it's going to be cold, pissing down and you want to go fast, in which case embrocation doesn't turn your tight-clad legs into waster-logged lumps.
