^ fair. Won't find a Mixte in S'pore to try out, so will equiv sized diamond frame relate to a Mixte. I am assuming yes but just want to check with those more knowledgable about these things....

- Her current frame takes 650c wheels (I dunno why either), will a set of 26" wheels I have in the lock up work?
Rim radius will be 6mm less with MTB 26" compared with 650C. If the brakes will reach, you can probably use them with fairly skinny (for MTB rim size) tyres.

We just moved out of our flat and organised professional carpet cleaners through the letting agent. My understanding is that it is many carpet cleaners also offer the option of mattress cleaning. Since we were already using carpet cleaners, we deliberately didn't bother cleaning the mattress and specifically asked the letting agent make sure the mattress was also cleaned at the same time. Now, the letting agent is saying that they cannot get the carpet cleaner to clean the mattress because it damages it's fire retardancy, and since it's now too late for us to clean the mattress ourselves is demanding we contribute to the cost of replacing the mattress.
Specifically, my two questions are:
Is this true, does professional cleaning damage the fire retardancy of the mattress?
and if so, does it also damage the fire retardancy of the carpet? -

WTF you been doing to the mattresses? Sounds like a scam for monies to me.

Scam.... does the mattress condition get a mention in the flat inventory when you moved in? If yes has it changed, if no tell them GTF.

No idea. There were a couple of small stains that are so small that I wouldn't have noticed/recorded them when we moved in so I can't prove they weren't there before. I sweat a fair amount if it's a warm night in the summer but we had a full compliment of mattress protectors etc.
Sounds fishy to me too, hence the question. If the answer to (1) is no, or the answer to (2) is yes then I'm not paying.
I guess I'm also after some sort of evidence or documentation that I can wave under the nose of the letting agent/ arbitration folks if I kick up a fuss.

I don't think your questions are the way to go. Check the inventory and contest the deduction.

How long were you there for? mattresses don't last forever.

Saying that we've had ours for years, and our old landlord gave it to us when we moved in then let us take it with us for free when we moved out a few years later.

If there is no provision in the contract for mattress cleaning, and any changes in condition are fair wear and tear, tell them to get to fuck.

We went to look at a prospective house to rent a few years ago, as well as the secret 4th bedroom that couldn't be declared due to a lackof planning permission, the garden had a king size mattress stood up against the fence which was liberally smeared with faeces.

Does anyone here live in Reading or know the area quite well?
My girlfriend works in Marlborough & I work in London, I've tried commuting from Marlborough but it just takes too long so we're looking to move house and share the commuting distance - in my mind this leaves us with Reading as the best option.
Which are the nice and which are the shit areas?
I need to be able to get to the station & my girlfriend will be driving West to Marlborough for work if that helps with location...
