He’s just accusing me of trying to shake him down now. I’ve told him I don’t want his silly bibs but I’ve given him the offer of sending them to @Chopsicle so he can give them to a needy rider instead of them going to waste. Sorry Graeme, name dropping you shamelessly in my petty eBay dispute

Great stuff. Those photo codes seem to make the process much smoother (anecdotal evidence from others only).

I wonder what the reason is though, do you think the seller thinks you might try and contact Albion for a warranty replacement or something?

This turned into a hilarious exercise in dealing with a very petty man. Firstly he started claiming he was sponsored and that the kit was sent to him with arse wear and smelling of persil. Then when I suggested a 50% discount instead of cutting them up he claimed I was shaking him down for free bibs. Then when I offered to give them back to Albion he said he'd give me a 5% discount or I could cut them up for a full refund again.
Then when I spoke to eBay (who actually rang me and were incredibly helpful and even laughed out loud as they read through the message history between us), they opened a return to test the waters with him. He immediately messaged me saying "I have received your request for a return and have until the 20th to respond so please enjoy twiddling your thumbs until then 👍🏻" Which wasn't even true, he had 3 days (this was on Wednesday). And then today I got a notification saying he has approved my return and I got sent a pre-paid label.
Part of me suspects, given his pettiness up to this point, that when he gets them he'll cut them up and send me a pic just to try to wind me up given my reply to pretty much every message he's sent has been "cutting them up is stupid and I refuse to do it". What I fear is more likely though is him picking some fault like I've damaged them or done something to void the refund so I've got to decide to risk that or just put them on eBay for £50 and say they've been used a bit and have some wear bobbling. Kind of a ballache to do that so might just take my chance with the return and just document the shit out of it before it gets posted.

Curious about his seller rating.

• #125033
100% positive feedback, from 1208 ratings, since 2004. Which adds more weirdness to it all. Maybe everyone else is happy destroying stuff he described poorly...

• #125034
That’s really odd considering his attitude.

• #125035
Maybe this is probably the first time he's been shaken down for some free bibs.

So he got them second hand and now they're third hand? If he's sponsored maybe he's one of these people https://www.albioncycling.com/log

At work there are four of us who often need to log in to something with a code sent to a phone. We could be anywhere at the time, one of us on a day off, etc. Is there a better way to do it? We all have iPhones. Some things can use an email address or an app but mostly it’s a phone number.

None of this matters and it’s not worth worrying about. You’ve got an eBay approved return label; as soon as this is scanned through at the post office the return is initialised and eBay will side with you. He can do what he wants but you can just wait and hit the ‘ask us to step in’ button when he runs out of time. It’s happened a couple of times for me 👍

Create a group email/distribution list of which all of you have access to and have the 2FA sent there?
-
• #125040
Authenticator apps, I use the Google one. Once you’ve set the login up on your phone, when it asks you just open the app. It sits there cycling through codes for whatever accounts you have created.

Grab a free email address and auto-forward it to all 4 people. If the app requires a phone number for 2fa (hi Apple you wankers) you could get some kind of sms forwarding service (receive sms and forward to email) but it's not free and you'd have to get another phone number to use for it. If the app supports authenticator apps /totp there'd be a few ways to share it, a web based password manager app probably being the easiest.

The industry is moving away from sms 2FA, fwiw. Authenticator apps as mentioned could help. If it’s an inbox perhaps you can add multiple phone numbers to choose from? Very annoying but it would give you each autonomy.

Buy access to an SS7 gateway and divert the text messages to whoever wants them at the time. May not be legal.

A fairly rare thing post Brexit but does anyone have any man with van or shipper recommendations for EU-UK runs?

I’d like a standalone camera that can be mounted indoors, pointing out our back window in order to surveil the yard. Battery operated, sd card compatible, unconnected to wifi.
What search terms or types should I be looking for?
Thanks! -

Hm, a nature cam might do the trick, motion triggered, battery powered…
IR won’t really work through a window though, and I’m not sure if any are available that can deal with our winter temperatures. -

I have a pair of Vittoria Corsa Control Graphene 2.0 tires.
Used on two rides for a total of about 70 miles at most before swapping them out. They have sat unused mounted on spare wheelset for about a year in a cold garage then the maybe two or three years in a drawer.
The rubber on the side walls is wearing away at points revealing the white fibre of the side walls. Is this normal or are they shagged?
I can rub away the rubber with my thumbs, almost like it’s painted on.
I don’t know much about tyre construction but I’ve never noticed this on any other tyres.
The tread itself doesn’t feel like it’s perished. Are they shagged or is it just cosmetic?

That's because it is.
is it just cosmetic?
Mostly, although it probably has some effect as a sunblock to preserve the rest of the carcase from UV damage.

Thanks, it’s seems I’ve maybe just got a duff tyre that got past QC. The construction on my Conti tyres is different in that the side walls feel like proper rubber rather than something that’s been painted on.
Seems that the rubber ‘paint’ has just been applied a bit thin compared to the front tyre. Will ignore and continue to use :)

Yes, they are made differently. The thin layer of latex paint on tyres made from silk, cotton or a polyester/cotton hybrid yarn, in a manner akin to a tubular, is a very light and flexible way to add some waterproofing and UV protection.
Conti make make tyres like car tyres, with nylon threads set in a fully moulded rubber casing.
I went down that route initially and suggested a 50% refund and he was clear that it was cut them up for a refund or keep them, no middle ground
