  • Anyone know where I can find some 3/8" crank bolts for my BMX that don't cost over £15 for a set of fucking bolts?

    Where's charging you £15?

    What cranks?

Borrow somebody else's to put them on then unscrew and give them back if they're Powerbite design. Pinch bolts will hold the arms on.

  • those look like their head is too small so will just screw into the axle without securing the cranks.

    Washers?

    Or flanged head hex:

  • They might do, it seems a lot of ti axles have 3/8 so most bolts are expensive to match and all my other cranks are a nice, regular m8, these are a splined axle so no pinch bolts either, not that the crank will stay on with just them.

  • Proms 65: Movie Music - are tickets available for this? Have they started selling them or are they sold out or what? I'd like to get some for a birthday present for someone but can't work out what's up with them..

    Sold Out.

promenade tickets are only sold on the day, although you have to queue - if you don't want to stand the gallery (at the top) is more relaxed and they have the doors open if it's hot.

  • Did the whole Queue / Promendade tickets yesterday for the Dr. Who gig and it was the nuts. Recommended.

Obviously not great if it's for a birthday pressie though...? Or have a party in the queue - lots of beers / eating to be done in the sun, and if you get there early enough you'll be on the square outside the hall which is pretty pleasant.

Imperial SU bar is just down the road too.

  • Anyone done the cycle from London to Paris - just how fit do you need to be?

  • There's a wide range of fitness required, depending on how fast you want to go.
Most with working limbs could do it, given enough time.

  • We've got three days....and have every decade represented in our group

  • Every decade?

  • Okay. Maybe not Mr 2009

  • Check slowest rider's top supportable speed
Carry your own gear or supported?
    Route distance?

First hit for me was the "Avenue Verte".

  • 1830s?

  • Three days, support cars, Ldn-Calais-Paris.

  • Not possible.

  • No problem.

  • Google maps, when asked for "London-Paris" gives a route of ~320 miles via Calais.

    So, you're looking at doing ~110 miles/day.

Lets say 14mph average speed, gives you 8 hours of riding, so if you stop for an hours lunch you're looking at 3 working days, 9-6 of riding.

The only way you are going to answer the "am I/he/she/they" fit enough question is to do a trial run, then work from that to work out your projected speed etc.

It's not trivial, for sure, but it's not mental, either.

  • ...I'm going to try and get to Reims in 2 days...on a fully laden touring bike...

  • I suppose throwing a single speed into the equation works against me?

  • Not if that speed is above 15mph.

  • Fell off the rear of the bike today whilst trying to pop a wheelie. In doing so I ripped a 1p size hole in the arse of my new bib shorts.

Can they be repaired or should I bin them?

  • 1p you say? PM'd.

  • Do you have change?

  • Repairing them will be easy enough. I've done it in the past the repair lasted longer than the rest of the shorts.

  • snotter is hoping the shorts will allow him easy access
