Was there another fatality today?
from a friend's facebook:So shocked right now...this is the second time I've seen a cyclist get hit but this time the guy was laying there and not moving with blood everywhere:'(. It's so dangerous to cycle in this crazy city..crazy how you can lose your life in a split second. Makes you realise how precious life is and so pointless to worry about the things and people that don't matter.
several people went to check his pulse and lift his arm but nothing, then someone took off their shirt and put it over his head:( he looked young like 20
Stamford Hill Broadway (intersection) around 4 30 pm, still cordoned off as of a couple hours ago

Length+width+height cannot exceed a pitiful 158cm!!!
If they do then it is a 50Euro charge on top. Might as well have gotten the official bike service. But that plane was at 6am and I didn't fancy getting to the airport that early with a bike+luggage. Apparently the cab fare would be about 45euro to the airport!
Wasn't 50euro, was 100euro extra each way!
I gave up looking for rental options or trying to buy a cheap bike over there. Seems Linz is a somewhat desolate and overpriced kinda place.I contacted lufthansa and they surprised me by saying there was bike spaces where they previously said there was not. So sucked up the 50euro each way, seems like a bargain now compared to the other options. Rental of a decent bike is 30euro per day and they only have them in popular tourist areas/mountains, not in Linz.

Does anyone here work at Orange?
Would like to ask a few questions if possible..

Anyone have something I can use to charge my phone/kindle while cycle touring? Some sort of clever solar cell badboy which I can put on my rack? Does this exist? Can I borrow it?
-
• #48388
That's pretty sweet (and I think Bill may have something that does that?), but I need it for Saturday. Hence asking if there's anything I can borrow. I'm thinking of extending my ride after the France section and making my own way to Karlsruhe (where I'll be the following weekend anyway, so avoid the train back to London and van ride back to Germany, and do a few hundred more KM instead), so it'd be nice to have a charged phone.

How long are you going to go for without a plug?
Didn't think a Kindle is something to worry about.

one week for certain, two weeks potentially.
3G on Kindles drain them a bit quicker, and I'd be using the internet on it.

I've not read a review for a while but the little solar panels are a bit shit- person I would ask would be Jacqui as she has had to find out what works.
When I've been camping and so on we just plugged phones and ting in when we went to the pub.
-
• #48392
Yeah the 3G drain the battery like there's no tomorrow.
If it's a week, why not a battery pack that's rated at 15-20,000mAh instead?

I was recommended a TeckNet by a cycloctouriste who pop round to my shop yesterday;
TeckNet® iEP392 12000mAH Heavy Duty 2.1A: Amazon.co.uk: Camera & Photo
Plus a lots of camp site have plug to charge your phone, thought some campsite charge a little more to "let" you charge your device.
-
• #48394
Yeah, may do that, Neil.
Ed, extra weight is not as good as some charging method (the boxed weight of that is a kilo, which I'm not super keen on pulling up the alps. That weight is saved for beer. And maybe water). But if there isn't one (a charging method), I'll have to figure something else out. Some sort of bolt on dynamo + usb charger would be sweet.
Also, we're wild camping. All the campsites were booked. I may crash with people the second week though, now that I think about it.

Make sense (and can emphasised going up the alps), honestly if you're that worried, a good old Shimano dynamo front wheel and a convertor to charge your device while on the move is the best solution.
It was our only solution when we were wild camping in Spain and needed to charge the GoPro when not in use.
When we stop to eat, we usually find a place that have a plug so we can charge while having a break, even if it's just half an hour.
The only thing I would change is charging a small battery pack (says 5000mAh) instead of the electronic device allowing us to charge them in the evening instead.

Brompton owners: the real-life difference between an S-type and an M-type? I want simplicity but a relaxed ride (I've got a road bike for commuting/rides)
-
• #48397
handlebar height (and limited bag option with the S type).
-
• #48398
my s-type is fine but they're more fussy about what luggage you can use on the front if that is at all important.
i think they looks slightly less ridiculous than the m type as well.
-
• #48399
They do put you a bit lower down as well, the S-Types. M might be a bit more relaxed.

Which one have you got?
Does anyone on here know how I can legally get a couple of tickets for the sold out Bowie show at the V&A? It's for someone really special who's only in London a few weeks. I only seem to have friends who work at/are members of the Tate or NG.
