Where can I get a cactus that's 3 - 4 foot tall and not for an exorbitant amount of money?
-
• #38253
Hmmm. It's like getting a fake christmas tree. Seeing as I'm against them, and I want to decorate the cactus for christmas, I'm not sure that's for me.

You can buy Saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea) seeds on ebay if you're prepared to wait.

1 - Planet X claim that international orders should arrive within 7 days. I ordered a 'ready to ride' bike on Friday and it will apparently ship today. Anyone know how long TNT might take to ship it to me in Japan? Is the 7 day thing anywhere near a realistic estimate (i.e. will it seriously arrive on Friday)?
2 - ~50mm deep carbon rims: what sound do they make? Nothing, a swoosh, or do I get wom?

I'm pondering getting some rollers. I live in a first floor flat with wooden floors, will the noise be loud enough to piss off downstairs? Are there any decent cheap mats (a quick look at Wiggle has mats starting at about £50 which seems steep) to deaden that and protect the floor?
Cheers

I've heard people suggest yoga mats before, and that is what I was going to use when I get mine, they can be had commonly for around £10 I think

My rollers are noisy as fuck, and that is on a concrete floor. But they are old, maybe the newer models are quieter?

Me?
This:
Site still says 'ready to be shipped'. Come on, guys.

Yeah right, and then what after Christmas? You're just going to throw it out on the street along with all the other Christmas cacti, as if it was yours to consume and waste. It's disgusting.

Schlumbergera is a small genus of cacti with six species found in the coastal mountains of south-eastern Brazil. Plants grow on trees or rocks in habitats which are generally shady with high humidity and can be quite different in appearance from their desert-dwelling cousins. Most species of Schlumbergera have stems which resemble leaf-like pads joined one to the other and flowers which appear from areoles at the joints and tips of the stems. Two species have cylindrical stems more similar to other cacti. In Brazil, the genus is referred to as Flor de Maio (May flower), reflecting the period in which they flower in the Southern Hemisphere.
This genus contains the popular house plants known by a variety of names including Christmas Cactus, Thanksgiving Cactus, Crab Cactus and Holiday Cactus, which are Schlumbergera cultivars, and flower in white, pink, yellow, orange, red or purple. (The Easter Cactus or Whitsun Cactus, which may also be called a Holiday Cactus and has vivid scarlet flowers in the most commonly grown form, is now placed in the genus Hatiora.) The cultivars of Schlumbergera fall into two main groups: -

Depends on how they are constructed- for the proper menacing rumble you need them to be hollow.
A lot of the Chinese carbon rims have a foam core, so lack the reverberation, those are quite quiet.

Yes
Are there any mats to deaden that?
No.
There is no material in the world which can attenuate the relevant frequencies by a worthwhile amount in a mat form and support the dead load of your rollers with you on them. There are two ways to tackle this problem. You can either build your bike and your rollers so perfectly dynamically balanced that they don't feed any wheel or roller frequency into the supports, or you can move to somewhere on the ground floor/with concrete floors. Of these, moving is cheaper.

I imagine you already piss off the neighbours if you have wooden floors.
However, if you talk to them and explain about the rollers, maybe they will be ale to tell you a time of day when it won't bother them (and the neighbours either side)

Yes, I have a pair. I would expect the hospital would give him a pair though?
