  • Is there any reason why the plastic cup on my shimano BB keeps cracking? too tight? too loose? I've been through two in a year.

So long as i could successfully install the cup i'd just not worry about a lone crack, or about more cracks that develop in-situ. The worst thing that could happen is it might disintegrate when next uninstalled, but there's no reason to hasten that day by replacing it early, and it's only plastic so not going to damage anything else if it does break up.

(while UN54 bb's come with plastic cups, UN55's have aluminium ones. Waving my calipers at them it seems they work slightly differently. The plastic ones have a shallow internal taper that begins to engage the sealed bearing when half-way installed and the far end of the taper is about half a mm smaller than the bearing, so it gets increasingly difficult to turn a you do it up and it probably doesn't matter if you don't get it all the way on as long as it's tight.. In contrast the aluminium ones have a sharp step that bears only on the very end of the bearing, so turn easily until fully done up.)

  • Am I fucking crazy for falling head-over-heels for a girl whose dickhead ex left her with serious commitment phobia?

Additional question for bonus points: translate the following - "I need some time to think"

Bonus bonus question: is the meaning of the above changed by the fact she's still trying to extract your tonsils with her tongue while she is on the doorstep?

    1. can't help who you like
    2. she needs some time think
    3. no, people can be confusing arseholes.
  • She's a very, very amazing confusing arsehole though. Fingers crossed, I guess...

  • Unrelated question...

Does the logo of my local bakery look like a chef?

  • no it looks like a dick and balls, but i suspect that what you wanted me to say. It might be what they wanted too, it is japan after all.

  • looks like a piercing has been removed

Can't help who you like but you can help who you go after. She may "need some time to think" but the fact that she is saying this while kissing you with the "dickhead ex" sounding to be so recently in the past likely means that she misses the comfort of being in a relationship, and the sex, or at least enjoys the emotional boost that kissing you gives but is not able to give you more than that right now.

Fill your boots lad, you're a long time dead.

Alas I only found out about these issues after heading down the relationship road, but had I known I'm not sure it'd have stopped me.

The ex left her late last year so I'm hoping she's already had a lot of time, and that will help.

Right now I'm not desperate for a full-on relationship either - I've told her that it doesn't matter to me if she wants to really take her time and she doesn't have to put any kind of label on it - but the fact that she's growing closer to me is what's scaring her. I'm happy to carry on and just give her the time and support to work it out.

For now I've asked one of her good friends - a platonic male friend, which I think is a good call - to maybe try talking her around... subtly! Besides that I figure I just give her lots of space and hopefully she'll realise that she's happier with me around. Fingers crossed!

  • Time and support, garunteed sex later.good tactic.

  • fuck it, just bought some Assos.

My Assos F1 Uno S5 bib's just turned up. My god they are comfortable.

  • My Assos F1 Uno S5 bib's just turned up. My god they are comfortable.

They are indeed but be careful. When you stop at the lights don't dismount and lean back on the tip of your saddle. The last 4 pairs of Assos shorts I had now have a slightly transparent piece of lycra through which any wheel sucker has the joy of seeing the top of my arse crack.

  • i've never used V brakes before can someone recommend a brake and lever combo? for MTB straight bars

  • Shimano Deore or Avid Single Digit 7.

I have this too, and am getting it on my latest pair too. But I don't lean back on the tip of my saddle.
I am still clueless to the cause, and have been tripley carefuly with my current pair (doubley careful with the pair before that), and they're still showing signs of going. only get about a year out of them :/

  • Is 20h front 24h rear strong enough for a track wheel? I thought that 32h was the lowest most people go, but searching for carbon rims they all seem to be 20h/24h sets.

  • Depends on the rim and the rider; on a Zipp 808, it would be fine for pretty much anybody, on Mavic CX18s it would be OK for a skinny pursuiter but for a big sprinter not so much. Bear in mind that loads of road wheels are 16/20, and road sprinters don't seem to be troubled by them. Old fashioned spoke counts had more to do with a combination of very light (and therefore noodley) rims and poor fatigue strength of spokes. Both have changed a lot in the modern era.

  • would it be ridiculous to use these rims with 25c tyres?

  • Based on my experience of using 35c tyres on 38mm wide rims, I guess they would work, maybe even quite nicely, but that may not prevent ridicule from retro-grouches. So, ridiculous, but probably for the wrong reasons :-)

I dunno, you seem to be edging into Nice Guy territory.

  • Do TT levers matter what side they're on? I know they say left and right, but how significant is this?

  • I remember that in the early skidder days people used to bodge two sets of straps onto pedals with clips. Is there a particular way to do this?

I have to ride with them this weekend and have no idea how to attach the second strap. Want a second strap to keep me from dying.

    Do you have a tail?
