Anyone know what this sweet spot is for SPD cleat bolts?
4.134mm will just miss the internal peaks on an M5 female thread, 4.019mm will take everything but the threads off the inside of an M5 male thread.
tl;dr: Use a 4mm drill bit

You missed out, it's about 5 mins from my work, you could have done a couple of laps after dropping the charger off..
Ah, should've done that. Was keen to get home though. A 27-mile day of running errands and getting soaked in the storm = needing a cup of tea. Again, huge thanks for the loan...

A 4mm you say? I think I've got a bit that fits that description.
Coming up: a new pair of shoes after an unfortunate drilling accident...

Are the national cycle routes clearly signposted, and suitable for road tyres (specifically wondering about routes 20 and 21)?

That's near enough to scoble, get him to come along with his trailer.

Advice wanted, whenever I ride my road bike lately, even for short periods (15min+) my feet start to go numb and achy. If I continue it becomes unbearable! What am I doing wrong? I have played around with saddle position and cleat position, and different shoes but nothing helps!
Any ideas?

Define road tyre. You should be OK on anything suitable for Paris-Roubaix

signposting is okay, but surface varies dramatically and somewhat inconveniently since many of the routes suggest a longish ride, then suddenly go a bit off-road, down a sandy beach path, flinty road or bumpy drove.
if you don't mind a bit of off-road and have puncture-resistant tyres you should be okay, just be prepared for it. which are 20 and 21?

having said that sign-posting is okay, I would always take OS maps too, I've had to refer to them on occasion.

Continental Competition tubs.

Ah. Bugger.

Time for plan C by the sounds of it.

it's fine, so long as you're expecting it. quite a lot of the NCN is on decent roads - can't you guess it from google maps? as a very rough rule of thumb, anything not on the main road is likely to be a little off-road, maybe a farm track kind of surface. the one that dumped me on a sandy beach was a bit unusual. routes that go near touristic spots often turn into traffic-free tracks too - but as with the beach these are relatively short sections. I think I ended up carrying the bike on the sand, but appreciate this may not be ideal when wearing road shoes. actually if I think about it, all the most unhelpful surfaces I've come across have been by the seaside. if you're inland, should be ok.

I was considering route 20 from Brighton to Crawley, then Route 21 from Crawley to Lewisham.
However, if I have to use the cross bike for it then it's useless to me- if it doesn't rain I was intending on riding my road bike tomorrow.

John Molineaux's Three Pimples cross training route takes in a couple of miles of NCN21, a section which includes a corner that is arguably the most technical single corner on the entire route.
I'd never do it on a road bike.
There's no need anyway, there are some lovely lanes that you can use instead.

Does anyone know where I can buy spare spokes for a Planet X Model B Wheelset? I asked PX, but they don't sell them anymore, and told me just to buy them elsewhere.
The issue is, I wouldn't know where to get similarly bladed spokes, the spoke lengths, or let alone the ERD of the rims to help calculate it.
I guess I could measure the ERD and hub dimensions to help figure it out, though I'm still not familiar with buying bladed spokes and where to buy from.

Cheers Andy, I'll work out a route and chuck it in the Garmin.

Why won't my Marathon+ seat on my Weinmann rim? About 4" of tyre just won't come out onto the bead. I tried some fairy liquid (as you do with car tyres) but it hasn't done much.
