  • It appears to be a really weird stem, they have applied some kind of chromoplastic coating over the aluminium. They could've just mirror polished the metal and anodised it making it last pretty much forever. I have never seen any metal component that had this finish very strange. But it a purely cosmetic issue.

Thanks, yeah it seems so strange to me, I've never seen any kind of metal look like this one does - with the silvery bit flaked off, it's a dull, opaque cream/grey. The silvery bit that's flaking off is like gold foil. It's made by Kalloy and was cheap, so that might explain it.

  • Im a pretty serious road cyclist, predominantly time triallist- can I justify buying a track/dirt bmx to aid handling/fitness or would it be no more beneficial than just caning it around on my TT bike?

  • Specificity.

But there's nothing wrong with a bit of fun.

  • just take your TT bike round some bmx jumps every week for a while, get used to how far you can push it.

  • Specificity.

    Specifically, I am a cyclist.
Generally, I am an athlete ;)

Generally, you should pay attention. Specifically, to me.

If you want to race TTs, train on your TT bike.

  • I used to ride/race a bit of bmx & mtb... I think it's given me significantly better skills than alot of cyclists that have just done road riding....

  • I thought it would be rude to use your wheels in my turbo

I used yours on the cobbles, I think you get a free pass on mine. Haven't used yours since, btw, because wearing the anodised surface terrifies me. Back on the ksyriums until I get my act together.

  • I was leaning more towards using a BMX on rainy days, rest days, when I have just ridden long, or maybe when I just dont feel like riding my TT bike, and as you said, there is nothing wrong with a bit of fun.
Taking into account the above, would the benefits outweigh the cost? (>£200)
I am also looking for a bike to do a 3 mile pub commute on, I figured as 99.9% of BMX riding is done standing up, it would also increase my out of saddle skill/efficiency, which I do lack in at the moment.

Do TT's on a BMX. There are gains to be had. Specifically the lack of seriousness.

  • cross training with tiddlywinks will have a huge performance enhancing benefit.

Now now, lets keep it serious.

Can you hop in and out of tram lines with wide tyres?

  • Wedding present - any suggestions and how much to spend?

Need it for today so mail order will not work.

  • Hahahahahaha, you really haven't thought this through, have you?

  • nope, head in the sand

  • The largest latex phallus you can buy. Vibrating a bonus. They won't forget that on their honeymoon.

Maybe go double-ended if they seem particularly kinky.

  • Do they have a wedding list? Unfortunately if they do there is likely to be only expensive stuff left as the cheaper stuff tends to go fairly quickly, however it always worth a try.

Otherwise, it all comes down to how good a friend they are and how much money you have to spend. I always try to go for something thoughtful that the bride will like (you always want to aim the gift at the bride) John Lewis has some really nice crystal vases at the moment, and will gift wrap. Don't forget to ask for a gift receipt.

  • Seeing as you're such a coffee "aficionado" DJ how about something coffee themed...?

@fussballclub , I don't see why not, is this trick question? (is there a tram on top of me...?)
