a few questions related to the weekend/bank holiday:
is there anywhere to buy commercial printer supplies on the weekend? large format ink cartridges and paper rolls. LGC has some paper rolls, but not ink cartridges. where else to try?
has anyone used fastframes.co.uk/tradeframes.co.uk? their address is in London, hoping for a same-day delivery but won't be able to speak to a person until Wednesday.
starting to feel a little desperate...

What length BB do I need?
I have a square taper shimano decore triple crankset (M510) and need to buy a threadless BB.
Sheldon says, 110-113mm which will give a 47.5-50mm chainline.
http://sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html
It says 47.5 preferred. It's a skinny 531 tubed frame. But I'm not sure what differences it'll make.
How do I work out what chainline I need on a triple with a 9-speed rear?
Also any recommendations on which BB brand? It seems like it's velo orange or yst, or Spa's unknown one... any differences?
Cheers.

Found an old bike touring bag in the loft, and was wondering how difficult it would be to turn it into a backpack or messenger style bag?

The difference is that using a long axle in a skinny frame might mean the front dérailleur can't reach far enough to clear the chain in top gear.
Get a Shimano UN55 110mm* e.g. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=71369

Yes, they are. They merged with Comet a little while back

thanks, it's working now. just got a spinning wheel earlier in the day. mysterious.

^^thanks.
That makes sense.
Unfortunately the threads have gone on the drive side, so it's a threadless BB only.
I'm now strongly drawn toward the VO, as (from the marketing guff) it expands from the inside so should pose less risk of unthreading.

I think mavic produced some threadless BB's, saw one at a bike jumble once.

Ah, missed the bit about threadless.
Not convinced that the VO is actually a better design than the YST, as long as you cut the chamfers in the BB shell to make the YST one work as designed.

I've got a steel frame with a stuck seatpost, that's been sawed off. I'd like to make some sort of plug, so I can fill up the seatpost with a mix of caustic soda and water. What can I use? Clay? 2 component epoxy putty? PVA glue?

bluetac / plasticine seems like the simplest. Bare in mind that the seal will need adjustment as the post melts away.
Also wondered if elastic banding a plastic bag over the seat tube would get around that problem and catch the gunk that will come out.

Im after some clipless pedals but due to knee problems I think I need a decent float on them? or is that just not a problem? also I was wondering if anyone had any particular pedal recommendations?
-
• #29915
Ok. I'll give Blu-Tac a shot...
-
• #29916
Getting the cleat positioning, saddle height and foot position right is more important than the available float.
If you have serious knee problems Speedplay is, from what I've heard, the best option, but may not be practical if you are on a budget.
See a specialist and get them to set you up if you are in any doubt.

anyone know how this fucking thing is susposed to go on?
the logical way to do it gives a very sharp turn for the FD cable

doesn't matter i've found one to go under the bb shell that works better

Does anyone know of alternative way of achieving candy colour rather than spraying multiple layers of intercoat mixed with candy concentrate?
That would create very thick layer of paint and i'm trying to avoid this. I want the lugs to look sharp not be buried under tones of paint.
Xirallic paint maybe?
Any resprayers here, someone working in car body shop? -

Could anybody point me in the right direction for a seatpost for this?

Any resprayers here, someone working in car body shop?If you are talking about spray paint and not powder coat, it should be thin anyway. A good paint finish is always thin.

Try the search term "formulaOne Composite Aero", and maybe "Trinity" as they changed the naming of carbon TT/Tri bikes from TCR-TT to Triniity the next year.
