it was 65% at the last general election..

• Neil

Jus buy the aluminium ones for your pub bike

I have them on my fixie skidda, and crabon on the road bike.

• I've got the alloy ones on my cross bike and the carbon ones on my road bike- I like them.

Just wondering if there was something the same shape for less than £55- which is the best price I can find them for (wiggle)

• I got the al ones a couple of years ago, they were about £35 then.

• I'll just buy them next year off the forum. From Dammit.

• How much of a pain would it be setting up my 120 spaced 531 road frame to run a 130 hub and modern running gear? Should I just sell it and look for something suitable in my size to replace it with? I'm quite fond of the frame that's all.

Passion about having a say in the way things are run?

French don't like something they are vocal, strike and do stuff. Here going on a march being vocal is seen as a bad thing.

• ^^ Get the chainstays set. A decent bike shop should be able to do it.

Do it yourself.

You sure its 120? why am I thinking gear is 126?

This post is powered by white wine and toad in the hoile.

• Old gears, just measured it.I might give Woodrup a call and ask what they would charge, will they just cold set it?

I'd say we have a fairly strong culture of marches/demos/strikes/parades/pickets/rallies/protests over here.

Oh and I'm not including the shameful 2011 riots/bun fight. What about the suffrage parades - so important for women's rights!

How effective today's are is another matter.

As in our life times/recent history. Student demos have all but stopped, no one has stood up for fees, no one for the recent tax scandles and having a current government that is a joining of two parties and one party is there to be in power.

Look at the levinson trial. NOTW and then Sunday sun..people still bought the papers, so if there was a scandle that you cared about stop giving Murdock your money.

People are apathetic, I remeber a history teacher had this in a picture frame on his wall:
First they came for the ------------,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a ---------.
Then they came for the --------------,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a ----------.
Then they came for the --------------,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a ----------.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
I know its a mash up of the original but made me think.

The government is on our behalf we should tell them what to do. Even down to not be able to protest outside our government buildings.

They are effective and can bring down a government you just have to have a passion. Or am I that niave. Maybe we need a more socialist system.

• In terms of track racing what kind of races are:
3 up
DernyPaced
8 lap h/cap
8 Lap Prog
Ik h/cap
H&H BC
Win & Out
Itali Pursuit?
Thats how it appears on the tracks website, just curious really and I forgot to ask the coaches on saturday.

• Derny paced - The Derny is a 50cc motor assisted bike with a huge gear on the pedals, the riders then tuck in behind his pacer like so

Win & out is kinda like a devil but the opposite way around. Every or every other lap there is a sprint for the line. The first person over the line then leaves the race. The winner of the first sprint wins the race then the second sprint gets second...

H/cap, I'm guessing it's an abbreviation of handicap. A handicap of 8laps is usually done in groups. Probably 4 separate groups where they try and match riders of even ability

Italian pursuit is a team sprint with more people. 6 people iirc. Each rider does one lap on the front before swinging off.

• Win & Out sounds so Cruel, but great for training purposes and weeding out the weak I guess.

I wonder whether 'celebrity' has a part to play in disenchantment with UK politics? If you compare our politicians with Greece or even France, they are (relatively speaking) easier on the eye and much better groomed in their teflon suits. Politics seems to have morphed into a competition to see who can look good whilst wriggling off the hook rather than who is the better civil servant.

I remember criticisms about appearance being leveled at Mo Mowlem (RIP) whilst she was secretly dying of cancer and even Ann Widdecombe had a makeover. Menzies Campbell was criticised for looking too old and [Tory MP] (I forget his name] was labelled as looking like a creature of the night (or something like that). Perhaps we've become more obsessed with the packaging than the political content?

• Ha that was Michael Howard having 'something of the night' about him. But the quotation comes from Ann Widdecombe. I have a friend who's a Tory, and has some pretty strong views I try to ignore, but while Gordon Brown was in power his criticism of him never reached beyond his odd smile and the weird inward breaths he took. Ed Miliband is a disappointing leader in terms of his ideas and lack of conviction, but much more worrying and potentially damaging than that is his poor media image.
