Be interesting to quantify the aero vs weight thing, over say 50 miles.
I would imagine you could describe it in terms of watts saved fairly easily?Google it. There's a German test (probably more than one) with loads of wheels compared including Ksyriums.

↑↑Cervelo quantified it when they launched the S3; 200g heavier frame is only slower once the gradient gets to >8% or something in that vicinity. Obviously that's for Elites who ride uphill faster than us, but frames are much less important than wheels for aerodynamics. Have you noticed how Milan-San Remo (hardly a flat race) now gets won on 808s, not 700g lighter 303s?
Don't you know it's all about component weight.. just like CPU speed is the be all and end all of computer performance...

I'll do my own testing this summer I think- not exactly scientific, but I can do the ROTFL course on Open Pros', then 50mm f/r, and then 60 front 88 rear. Three Sundays of riding should give me an idea.

Wtf is it with all these bike questions. Can we get back on track to DIY answers please

Ok, when was the last time I asked a DIY question in this thread?

I'm getting an electrician over tomorrow morning for some stuff.. should I get him to put a sensor light in while he's here?

About 2 minutes ago. ^^^

I've almost got wheels at both ends.

Looks like Mavic R-SYS are the ideal training wheels

Nope.

Quite a jump between the 808 and the 404, also.
Is there a correspondingly big jump between those in terms of handling fatigue when subject to crosswinds?
-
• #23715
They're both fucked in cross winds.
-
• #23716
The 404 did me for the 24hr. Almost changed it before the start due to high winds.

We came along the hogs back when I had my 50mm's on, in quite a strong crosswind- didn't seem too bad.
I'd not have wanted to let go of the bars mind.

I was on aero bars. Riding a road bike with 808s is easy.

Starts looking at cost of Chinese 88mm rim
EDIT I've got two pairs of carbon wheels, one 50/50 and one 60/88, I'm looking forward to seeing which pair I prefer this summer.

You don't ride fast enough for 88mm rims. :P

Wonder which of the rim profiles in that RA test the Chinese copied for my rims.
