  • DutchCheese (font of all Gazelle knowledge) says all Trophy frames take 26.4mm seatpost.
My Cross Trophy seattube appears to measure 26.0 using calipers. If, as I assume, this has happened through previously using an undersized seatpost, will I be able to replace the seatpost with a 26.4 without damaging the frame?

  • I've lost the menu in Ableton Live on a MBP and I can't find any way to get it back? Help!

  • I've never used anything other than Shimano. They stop fine if you keep your rims clean. I'm assuming the main benefit of the more expensive pads is that they leave less residue?

less residue, less wear and tear on the rims, longer lifespan, better performance in both wet/dry, basically the single best improvement you can make on your bike, people spend hundreds of pounds on upgrade but never thought to change the simplest thing; the brake pads.

Get some cheap Kool Stop Salmon* you'll notice it, in fact it should be the first thing you upgrade for a new bike, don't buy a new brakeset, get a new brakepads.

I'm just wondering whether the Swissstop Green is worth going for despite being twice the price of the Kool Stop.

*having says that, the Salmon itself wear out slightly faster (although I have not noticed that, to be precise can't really tell the difference), but still offer better braking.

  • Fuck it, ordered the Kool stop salmon again, still can't justified spending twice as much for a Swissstop when the kool stop work extremely well (over the stock).

    Just noticed the stock Shimano one that came with the brake I brought a month and a half ago, already halfway worn (and installed incorrectly too);

  • Mother CYOA told me that she'd read something about either agents or owners looking for people to stay in their property, if it's unoccupied, for insurance purposes. She wasn't sure if the person staying there had to pay a fee or really what the deal was. Anyone know anything about it?

  • don't know about insurance, but there's the "property guardian" thing to prevent squatters/thieves, eg. Camelot. rents are relatively cheap, but you can get moved on with little warning. pretty sure some forumers do similar but wouldn't want to put forward someone else's info.

  • Cool, shall investigate further. Though the getting moved on with little warning doesn't appeal all that much. Maybe it would be an opportunity to cut down on all the shit I own.

Just use a 26.0. If that's what's been in there already and thats what you measure it as, worst case, if it slips, shim it. DC is knowledge is pretty encyclopedic but he could be wrong/this could be different etc. You're the one with the calipers, you decide.

  • ^^ This is actually very appealing:

    http://uk.cameloteurope.com/508/0/available-now-for-live-in-guardians/available-now-for-live-in-guardians.html

There's usually a two week turnaround once you find out that they need you to move on and the length of tenancy usually lasts anything between 3 months and several years.

I'm sure there's more to it than that but I like the idea - and for 25 quid a week and up to live an interesting place...

My current place is OK in that it's very cheap - but it's more than a bit grotty and I'd much rather live on my own.

  • I've done camelot (an ex and I had a three bedroom flat to ourselves for a year; in an ex-council block in Streatham, so it wasn't exactly interesting or nice, but it was an obscene amount of space for £25pw), and a few other forum people do at the moment; there are various discussions about it on the forum but I can't remember where they are. I'd recommend it if you don't have a ton of stuff/pets and you're OK with being kicked out at short notice.

  • It really appeals to me too, but I have stupid amounts of stuff. perhaps I could afford a storage unit or even a studio, if I wasn't paying much rent...

    /dreaming

  • Said ex is moving into another guardian scheme but renting studio space elsewhere, so that's definitely doable.

  • hmm...

but how else would you water a plant?

  • Does the pot have drainage in the bottom?

see I was thinking that it was just the clamp area that had been squashed, and the main tube would still be 26.4 - looking at the various squashed bits of grease inside the tube it would appear that the previous post wasn't tightly fitted.

Is it not better to have more contact with the post? Or would trying to open out the clamp area be a really stupid idea...

but how else would you water a plant?

It's in a plastic pot inside a ceramic pot, I was lifting the plant out and putting water in the bottom which was working well, I think.

Maybe it needs replanting, the soil feels pretty compact

  • Lighthearted question for anyone bored :)
What's the most expensive thing you've seen sold on lfgss?

  • My integrity.

  • one night of Tenderloins

What's the most expensive thing you've seen sold on lfgss?

the 58cm nagasawa that was being sold for £1200 or so IIRC

  • I think that was sold off forum, does that count?

So there was a pool of water in the bottom of the ceramic pot? Sounds like the plant could be getting way too much water - what is it?

  • Only a cheap Ikea plant but I've grown quite fond. I was watering it by putting water in the bottom but it does get through it quickly

  • If there's mould on the soil I'd back off for a while. It may not need anywhere near as much water as you think. Some of the leaves are yellowing a little, so it doesn't look fighting fit.

Maybe you should repot it, get rid of the mould, give it some room to breath and water less often?
