I need to create a very basic web site for my Canada ride.
Whilst I used to be a web developer I know that I need something very very basic so I can't be bothered to get hosting and knock something up myself. Just the usual what why when who blah blah blah. I won't need guestbook or any other interaction.
There are literally hundreds of services out there where you can buy a domain and they give you a really simple web site builder. The problem is, there are too many to choose from.
Can anybody recommend such a service?
Cheers
Dan

I moving house.
In clearing out under my bed I have rediscovered a big bag of electrical stuff.
Old phones/chargers/USB cables/camera cables etc - stuff I don't use etc.
I don't want any of it, but what should I do with it all? It seems a bit of a waste to throw it out. Are there any electrical recycling places around Brixton that take such naff?
I also have a very old apple lap top - maybe one of the first ever made - bin? It has an airport card in it that I remember paying about £50 for many many years ago. Can any use it? -

How does cash-back work online?
My understanding, say if I walked into a supermarket and was offered cash-back, and accepted 20 quid, then my card would be charged 20 quid more and I'd walk out with the notes in my pocket - a bit like going to a cash-point?
So what's the purpose of it online for things like this:
"CASHBACK AVAILABLE ON SELECTED LENSES"
Does it work in a completely different way?

you pay the stated price and later on can claim back some money usually sent in the form of a cheque.
it's a popular promotion as the terms are usually strict and not many people jump through the hoops in time to claim it. so they look good offering money back but actually pay back very little.

You get a voucher that you redeem by post post-sale and receive a cheque some time later.

To my young ears, that sounds like free money. But where does the money come from? From the retailer?

Another question:
The accounting software I'm using has asked me this
1. Download your statement from your bank website
We strongly recommend using OFX, sometimes referred to as QBO or Quickbooks or MS Money 2005. We also support QIF format and some CSV formats.
I've had a look and MS Money doens't seem to exist anymore, OFX seems to be wildly complicated. Surely this shouldn't be too hard? I have a business debit account with HSBC.

the manufacturer typically. it's cheaper for them to do that than discount the price as only some of the people buying it will get money back (due to laziness) than if they dropped the price up front.
it's very popular in the states.

Use CSV Format. You'll be fine mate it's native data for excel.

Facebook?
Cheers but only Facebook members can access. Over 50% of my sponsors were not on FB last time round...

Can also be written off against corporation tax in some US states.
The old management consultant adage of "you don't pay tax on a loss" springs to mind.
Even more financial tomfoolery can be had if the rebate is issued from an EU branch and redeemed via a US branch.

A certain large computer hardware manufacturer offered £1.3m of kit to an old colleague of mine for -£50 (yes, they were going to pay him £50 to take it)...coincidentally in the last week of the tax year.

Those crazy bastards.
Cool. Thanks both - might just do that and see if I can make this less painful.

You're good. CSV I can handle. My problem was really searching for an option to download. It's not very obvious in the business banking homescreen - you need to go to transactions, select a date range and then you're able to choose from either MS Money or Microsoft Excel.
Sorted now.
What a good forum.
