Really? How did you know?
I've decided to ignore my high blood pressure and pretend it does not exist.
It's supposed to get spotted in early teens, but in the end a locum doctor took a stab in the dark, and sent me to a genetics clinic. (I think I was about 21) I fit enough of the parameters to be classed as having it. (Thin elongated limbs, hyper mobile joints, scholiosis, joint pain, unable to put on weight, high palate & crowded teeth, constantly tired/tire easily, and suffered lots of collapsed lungs) If you don't have I think 5, you're classed as having Marfan like symptoms.
There's a whole host of other things that can go with it, but thankfully my heart hasnt been problematic (yet!) - have to have yearly heart scans to make sure.
I had a plurectomy a couple of years ago that seems to be holding up well for the collapsed lungs.

I've recently finished a full carbon fixed build. I've got a fair few fixed wheelsets but one thing I do not have is a proper lightweight hill climbing wheelset. I plan to use this bike for the occasional hilly fixed ride in the Spring Summer.
I built some open pros onto Condor Unos a few days back. Whils they're lovely wheels I want something lighter but also want them to be practical i.e clincher and preferably not carbon.
I considered rebuilding the open pros with some lighter hubs but sadly I can't see many lightweight track hubs that are 32h.
Should I just scrap the open pros and get myself a nice pair of 24h American Classics and some new rims or am I missing an obvious 32h hub choice?
would you really notice a few grams around the hubs?

Totally fair and valid question. Yes, I do notice. Even more so 90mi in to a 6k feet ascent ride.
The cost to improvement ratio will not be favourable however. Much cheaper for me to lose the few extra pounds i'm carrying at the moment.
The difference between a pair of Unos and ACs is roughly 300g...a huge margin in the weight weenie world but nothing compared to having a full water bottle with you for example.
If I'm honest with myself, part of this is about making this build as light as possible but I do maintain that I'd notice and enjoy a lighter pair of wheels for climbing. When you've got a build that should be close to 6.5kg despite being a 60cm frame you do tend to want to fit wheels commensurate with the rest of the build...

fair enough, i know weight is crucial to climbing but wondered if the impact is so crucial around the hubs, seeing as they don't add much inertia.
-
• #22132
Agreed. I'm sure people can fill us in but I think it will mostly make a difference to overall weight rather than reduce rotational inertia to a noticeable degree.

65-75 fixed depending on what I'm doing at the time.
My £10 P-X track pump is finally on its way out after 6 years. What should I replace it with?
A Joe Blow one in the company parking lot is very handy and superior to my home one. Nice bit of kit.

Stonehedge, I am also looking at building some nice track wheels. However I'm less concerned about the weight, I never go at any speed on my track bike anyway. I'm thinking H+Son TB14's to Phil hubs or if I could ever find a pair, these

They look lush. Cheers Henry, will look them up.
Once i've built my hill climbing wheels (or bought some 420s) I'll probably get some Phils for my spare Open Pros. Phils are sadly too heavy for my current weight weenie tendencies.
-
• #22137
I only know of 1 pair even in the country, they're like hens teeth. 420's aren't too expencive new, I think there's a cheap pair on ebay at the moment. Ideally I want to find some fucked Zipp wheels or something to nick the hubs from.

I'm probably just going to buy an angle grinder from Lidl and get Iain's for nothing :D
In all seriousness, whilst I'd love to build some weight weenie wheels I think I'd struggle to meet the value for money of the ACs.

• #22139
Just wait until Iain thinks he's killed the hubs or gets continuous punctures again then offer him a tenner and a hug for them.

Yoo hoo Danny boy...

claim weight of 180g, compared to Condor (et all) estimate of 330g, 24 holes thought...
edit - AC has been mentioned, drat.
-
• #22141
Yup, those are the AC hubs I was considering. Once I've spent £180 on a pair of hubs plus whatever a pair of light 24h rims will cost I won't be far away from the £400 for a pair of AC 420s using those same hubs.

Those Mack hubs look like a winner.
Mack low flange in black to Tb14's in black with Sapim double butted spokes in black = my next wheelset. -

SKS Rennkompressor
+1. Make sure you get it with this connector:
It's very, very good. It's called 'Multi-Valve Hose Connection' here, but I don't know if that's the official name:

Why? What's the difference between that and the one on this:

I've got Lezyne steel floor drive tarc pump and I really like it.
I'd like it even more if the gauge was mounted high up, so I could actually see it. -
• #22149
That never used to be a problem when I was younger. It's a pain in the arse now.
-
• #22150
My lbs advised me away from lezyne, they went through 2 in their workshop whilst the bontrager is still going strong
Once I've priced up a pair of Campag Neutrons and American Classic hubs I may as well spend a little extra and just buy a set of AC 420 tracks!
