This is a gear cable nipple

...and all gear cable nipples are the same?
And in your experience all gear cables are created equal?

Cable wise I always buy stainless steel cables and make sure that the outers have an plastic/kevlar/what ever inner liner.
Think the last lot of cables I got were from wilkinsons and below a quid a cable.

I bought some old Campagnolo Athena brakes on the classifieds and completely missed the bit about:
"Also cable clamp screw rounded off and will need replacing."
Anyone with any ideas how I remove the existing one and where I buy the replacement?
(The "screw" is actually a hex that has been rounded out, and the thing looks like it was hit on the side with a hamer, and even after 24hrs soaking in WD40 it won't budge with pliers)

If you've got a firm grip on it with pliers, try after running it under hot water from the kettle. If that doesn't work, use a small blow lamp to heat it up and try then.

Thanks, will give it a go... Bit concerned because it looks almost fused. -

Have you seen the girl in the blue dress again?

I've got a road frame I'm converting, which has internal cable routing for brake and gear cables.
I think I should plug these to stop water and crap getting inside the tubes. Is this a good idea or not for any reason? Any ideas on a compound to use for this? I'm unlikely to want to run this geared in the future. -

I've got a similar problem with one of Hatbeard's long drop brake calipers...the bolt seems chromed in place. I've tried everything with no luck, just waiting to hear whether HB is happy for me to have a go at dissolving any chrome that is seizing it in place with some acid.

I've got a road bike with old Shimano RSX brifters and single pivot brake calipers, which I want to swap for dual pivot because at the moment stopping can be hairy.
I'm sure I read somewhere that some levers aren't compatible with dual pivot brakes but can't remember where and can't seem to find it.
Does anybody know if I'll be alright to just bolt them on and be on my way or will I die?

Because you are a heterosexual male and are hardwired to think that in order to keep the human species from extinction.

I want to get a miche crank that needs a 107mm ISO bb.
This has been discussed many times. Miche switched to 107mm BBs when they changed supplier. All the evidence points to the new supplier being far eastern and supplying JIS BBs. Many happy customers are using Shimano 107mm JIS (e.g. BB-UN54) with their Miche cranks without recourse to buggering about with the chainline of their hubs.
Cables are cables its just the nipples that are different ;)
