Trousers of such quality (poor or ortherwise) that would cause a passer by to exclaim 'gawd/gor/cor blimey' on observing them.

I want to run a 10speed MTB cassette (11-34 (maybe 36)), with a single 31T chainring. I'd like to use an Sram TT500 shifter, and a short cage rear MTB mech.
With all the song and dance about 1:1 'Exact Actuation', I figured this would be simples. But Sram seem to have some different terminology in the MTB ranks. I may have read some 9spd info along the way, which confused me though.
Questions:
Will a short cage, 10spd, X9 rear mech work with a TT500 shifter?
Can said rear mech cope with a 36T cassette sprocket?ED: FYI the survey on the Sram site is fecking with my PC.

Yes, SRAM 10-speed road levers will work with 10-speed MTB dérailleurs, and vice versa. They unified the cable pull when MTB changed to 10s. 9-speed (1:1, ESP) MTB kit won't work with either road parts or 10s MTB parts.

Why did Contador use an Apex rear mech in the Giro alongside the 11-32 cassette, rather than an MTB mech from a "higher" groupset level?
-
• #18208
Probably because they are promoting the Apex group to the target audience, but the Apex mid-cage RD is only 9g heavier than the XX RD anyway. Also, the MTB dérailleur uses direct routing for the cable, which means swapping to/from the normal Red RD involves more work.

I am going to build up a set of wheels for my commuter/touring bike with hope hubs and open pros I am planning to go 32 holes or would 28's be sufficient? I weigh 11 stone.

Cheers.
This what I thought. But the danish site I was looking at, had the old 9 speed descriptions on the equivalent 10 speed mechs. Which caused a lack of confidence. I also found a forum thread with plenty of incorrect advice. Weirdly it was'nt this forum ;)
Also the X9 will handle a 36t cassette sprocket, which leaves more options open.

If you're not racing, you might as well build them strong. If you are racing, you're looking at entirely the wrong kind of wheels.

Hmm, fuck that. Unless I book in advance and stick to the schedule. Likelyhood of sticking to the schedule - quite low.

Probably just because that gives it a chance to warm up to room temperature. Cheese straight from the fridge just tastes of cold.
-
• #18221
Just like beer. Anything colder than room temp never tastes nice imo. And if it can't taste nice at room temp then it's just shite.
-
• #18222
ale room temp yes, lager no
-
• #18223
Lager yes. A decent lager will taste good at room temp. Super cold guinness - bullshit. Cold soft drinks are wrong too, you just can't taste them. No wonder they use so many flavourings
-
• #18224
ale room temp yes,** larger **no
Larger than what?

Definitly go 32 hole for loaded cycling. Also, go for a wider rim. So you can run wider tyres. More weight, means more PSI required, means uncomfortable. So give yourself the option of running 28/32mm tyres, as this means you can drastically lower the tyre pressure for a given total weight.
