yep they are, I've put them on the back though. the shortest I've seen so far are some 55mm Shimano blocks but IME they aren't great for stoppability. cheers for the suggestions I'd forgotten about those Vans ones, they're threaded posts but even if they weren't I'm not sure I could tolerate trainer-shaped brakes...

You need an expander, don't let a star nut anywhere near a carbon steerer (and probably alloy ones too, the star nut cuts scratches into the material which act as stress raisers, the last thing you want on aluminium alloy components)

Where is a good place to buy custom sized mirror?
This is for a bathroom, covering one section of wall so needs to be cut to a specific size.

OK, posting a bicycle to Germany drama continues. Parcelforce have just told me they can't do it as it's too large and the only bicycles they can post abroad are children's. Parcelsplease have just said they would have to use DHL for something so large and the cost of postage is coming in at £164.10 (including VAT). This is utterly mental.
It amazes me that we actually have bicycles in our country from other countries, they must have migrated or got lost on a trip to the shops because they sure as hell weren't posted.
Is it really this difficult to post a bike to Germany? What other options do I have?
:(

Have you tried one of the aggregate companies like www.parcel2go.com? I used them to send a frame to Denmark for about £22.

interparcel for me, dunno about overseas, but less than £15 to post a complete bike Glasgow to london.

^^ Thanks Andy, but just tried them and got quoted £224 + VAT...
This is nuts.

Can you pack it down smaller? Prices are based on volumetric size, so the smaller the package the cheaper it is (even if the weight is the same).

I send a heavy dutch bike in a massive Pashley box to Denmark for £45 4 months ago.
Where is all these expensive quote come from??
-

Thanks chaps, yes it's the size that's a problem, it's a large frame/bike and I've now realised that 5 or 10cm extra in any given measurement makes a big difference to the quote.

Have you tried DHL?
They're an offshoot of the German mail system these days. Their Maxitransport option would seem to be suitable:
http://www.dhl.de/en/paket/privatkunden/national/maxitransport.html
Bulk items from €44.90 (their "Paket" (packet) option seems too small for a complete bike).
^^are Kool Stop Eagle II blocks too long? Or I think they did some weird short-looking ones shaped liked trainers (for Vans).
