Ignorant gears question - old frame didn't have a front-mech braze-on, and so the mech itself was a clamp-on(?); one that suits anyway. Replacement frame does have the braze-on. Can my mech still fit as is, or do I need to buy another, or is there an adaptor/attachment to make it fit? It's a Shimano 600 Arabesque. Clueless about gears.

It probably won't fit, as the braze-on tab will be in the way. The derailleur can't be modified to fit, but according to Velobase you can get a 600EX (not Arabesque) derailleur for braze-on...

I was attacked by seagulls when riding my Jam Bike, I was fine, but it got Pectin...

what shop will sell me axle cones by themselves? is 8mm impossible to find?
complete set (axle plus nuts) would be okay online, but if I can't get them with an axle, I want to be sure they will fit mine.
am I right in assuming a 9mm axle won't work, or do the cones just sit a little further apart to take the bearings?
just went to my LBS and was given the wrong size (axle plus nuts)... now going to take it back. hmph.
