  • RD-1056

On a 1× build you can probably get away with it, on a 2× you might run out of total capacity. There was a RD-1056-GS, but they're 30 years old now. If you want something which works well for not much money, get a RD-M310. If you want to keep your 90s road racer aesthetic, HTFU and keep using the 28 max sprocket

  • Appreciate your candour, would a 30t work on the aforementioned cassette?

  • would a 30t work on the aforementioned cassette?

That’s going to be a matter of try it and see if it clears the 30. They usually do, but the point Tester was making (let’s say you’ve got 52/42 at the front) is that the derailleur might not be able to accommodate the full range between 52/30 and 42/11. The cage simply might not have enough swing to do it, ie the chain will be too tight at 52/30 and the derailleur will be fully parked backwards at 42/11. You can only really find this out by trying.

  • Is this still a problem if you just avoid full cross chaining your gears? Or is it just because if you fuck your shifting you’ll break the derailleur?

  • Most exciting question in a while here: where does decent oven gloves?

  • Sounds familiar but don't have any link. I think it ties in with the great replacement stuff pushed by Douglas Murray and reposted by musk and other of his ilk, part of why musk has eleven kids and him now appearing at the texas border and banging on about being overrun

  • I tend to get ones from here. Better price than most kitchen places

  • Yes, it was talking about Musk when I remembered it. Really struggling to find anything about it online now though.

  • Joshua Project?

  • cheap welding gloves

  • Probably looking for something marginally more domestic tbh!

  • You want these:

Anyone who offers another suggestion is wrong and you should ignore them.

  • A man of conviction. Good enough for me, just ordered some!

  • “Don't just cook; conquer”

    Ordered!

  • Charging interest and a late payment fee - would I charge interest on the interest if the late payment invoice isn't paid on time but the original invoice is paid within 30 days from late payment invoice?

    back of napkin example:

    01 08 2023
    Invoice

    01 10 2023 (so 30 days after statutory period)
Invoice separately for late payment interest, plus £40 comp.

    15 10 2023
    Original invoice gets paid

    20 11 2023
No sign of late payment invoice sum clearing - has interest been accrued on the 5 days the late payment is overdue?

Would I charge interest on the late payment invoice? I can't charge interest on the original payment by that stage as it's been paid. But I don't want to leave anything on the table.

  • Invoice separately for late payment

Unless otherwise specified, that £40 charge is 30 days net like the original invoice, so they have until 01 11 2023 to pay it before accruing interest on the late fee

  • Was the late fee in the initial terms and conditions rather than just on the invoice?

Realistically, what's your relationship line with the client and how big is the invoice? There's a pretty good chance they're of the view that the late payment invoice was a scare tactic and now they've paid the original it can be ignored.

  • There's a pretty good chance they're of the view that the late payment invoice was a scare tactic and now they've paid the original it can be ignored.

Yeah, if the payment was a month late I'd lean towards what @aggi says above. a month or two late is fuck all ime, not saying it's good but just pretty standard.

If that's just a made up example and the reality is you've been fucked over for a lot longer and you never want to work with them again then go for it, but if its just a month I'd let it go.

  • That's what I mean - so there is interest chargeable on a late fee?

  • Unfortunately it's the latter and my napkin one is an example. They're months late for a large sum. And they're just rude cunts who have been grandfathered in with good terms (established with previous decent and pay on time person in same position at company before they left).

  • so there is interest chargeable on a late fee?

Only once it's overdue, assuming you treat the late fee like any other line item on the invoice. Obviously we haven't seen the contract, so there are assumptions 🙂

  • it’s a tricky one and I would drop the extra fees if they paid in a timeframe that was ’acceptable’
I do have no usage until payment in full in my T&C’s though which can sometimes help in leverage with late payers.
if you think you want to work with them again then drop the extra fees and haver a 50% up front production pro-forma and 50% then delivery of job on receipt of cleared funds.

I do know a model making firm who’s owner used to sit in the foyer of agencies with his laptop working away on his laptop and asking everyone who walked in the door “Are you here waiting to get paid too?”
    it was quite effective.

  • All other clients are 50% up front and works beautifully. But this one I've worked with for years and old terms have stuck. I just invoice at the end of each month with 14 day terms after totting up the various projects for that period. This invoice is for work done in July (which happened to be an unusually busy month for them - 5 figures) and it's just one thing after another 'slow process as lots of people need to approve, people are sick, finance on paternity etc'. I've stopped doing any further work for them. Haven't sent a late payment invoice yet but that's my plan monday morning after their promise of 'will be cleared by friday' passed. They're a large public sector organisation, I'm a small business - so falls well within this:
    https://www.smallbusinesscommissioner.gov.uk/deal-with-an-unpaid-invoice/how-to-chase-an-unpaid-invoice/interest-calculator/
They've met 14 day terms for the past 3 years so have precedent but the new guy has taken over and it's gone to shit. Even if they claimed 30 day statutory we're well past that now and excuses don't pay mortgages.

  • used to sit in the foyer of agencies with his laptop working away on his laptop and asking everyone who walked in the door “Are you here waiting to get paid too?”

    lovely btw
