Nope, I've renewed it whilst I've been in the UK in the past and I'm definitely a fucking Aussie.

Sori Yanagi stovetop.
How much? Sorry but this is peak Japanophile wank.
It looks like a charity shop find.
Edit: looks like you can get it for as little as £90 so maybe not that crazy https://celebrityhomeware.com/products/sori-yanagi-stainless-steel-kettle

Aussie
Didn’t doubt that, but some nationality claims, and by extension passport renewals, are less straightforward than others. I worked a case where a same sex couple contracted a surrogacy company overseas (with their sperm and an ovule from a friend) and during the last trimestre of gestation that country outlawed surrogacy for foreigners, so the child’s birth certificate only has the non-biological surrogate mother’s name. We sorted it, but when that child gets their passport renewed, the officer will see notes about it, and they’re entitled to ask for further information.

My induction hob is quicker at boiling water than my kettle but that's because the boost mode is 3.7kw or something.
Having a kettle that turns itself off is much more convenient though.

Yeah, cheers. I'm a load more straightforward than that! :D

Yep.
I can't be trusted to remember I've put something on a hotplate and turned it on. I'm the most easily distracted "cook" in the world.

Presume you can get hobs with built in timers?

Out of interest electric or gas hob? Gas wastes a lot of heat up the sides of the pans

• #110563
yeah but you have to live in a hole in the ground covered with straw and eat whippets while the ghost of margaret thatcher beats you over the head with a truncheon.

You can, but you need to know just how long it takes to boil to set the timer.

how concerned should i be with bike theft? i'm balking at bringing my daily drivers because boston doesn't seem to have it nearly as bad as you all do.
Have a look at this thread:
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/176548/
Have a beater, ideally a bit scratched. Perfect your locking technique. I recommend getting a bike that you can lock around frame and front wheel with a short lock, e.g. a Mini Evo. Much of Central London is reasonably well-provided with bike stands that make this possible. Don't leave your bike in the same spot outside (especially outside work) every day, as it means thieves can prepare to steal it. Relatively few cases of bike theft from workplace storage have been reported, so try to get a spot in the work bike park if there is one. Keep your bike(s) indoors at home if you can. Most bike theft is not from the street from vulnerable parts of homes (hallways, sheds, gardens, communal storage (many cases of that type of storage getting cleared out) etc.). Consider getting home insurance that includes your bike(s).
I'm sure it's worse here than Boston, but it's possible to avoid most trouble if you follow the steps above. The main problem is that there's no dedicated police unit working on bike theft any more.
Let us know when you're here and come to events!

Gas. With care to not allow heat up the sides - as much as is possible.

And always lock it next to something with a worse lock.

Is there an established thread about growing vegetables? Can’t find one with my search skills.

hey thanks for the response and the welcome. sounds like i already do all the right things for the most part, just will be taking up more risk in general with this move. i expect thieves there are smart enough to identify ti? 😅
this is my usual, nearly identical in capability to the old Bianchi San Jose.
i googled around and found a Gitane City Link (which is a San Jose rebrand) for decent money, and i'm now planning on doing a direct swap of everything from the firefly to the gitane. will be just as capable and far less crushing if nicked.the alternative was this, but i think it stands out just a bit too much.

Eggs best before 18th October (Morrisons free range medium), ok to eat?
Not usually unless it’s a very old passport or you have an ‘unusual’ (no offence) claim to nationality
