have been doing 4-6 sessions a week since i joined triyoga. it is nice but pricey, though doing over 20 classes a month means the cost is approximately £5 a class

Not really east enough for me DJ, not enough hours in the day to lose another cycling to Yoga, they look very organised though. I've emailed Stretch London to check their lunch classes are drop in so I'll let you know what they're like, "dynamic yoga", cause for apprehension?!

Just done my first Ashtanga class. Great!
I would recommend all cyclists. It showed me how much tighter my right knee is compared to my left, how tight my hamstrings are (I'm flexible and could do half manage every position but those where I had to sit on my heel with toes facing back), how limited basic stretching is and how a cycling position creeps into every posture ("shoulders back!").
The walk home was crazy, kept underestimating my stride. Never had to concentrate on walking so hard (sober).

I have been doing 5 or 6 yoga classes a week since joining tri yoga. Mainly focusing on postural practice, Iyengar and anusara yoga, as I feel my cardio side should be addressed by cycling.
Posture is improving dramatically. Have been doing both basic and advanced classes, and it has been great at refocusing my practice and such a diverse range of classes has left me feeling reinvigorated about doing yoga.

Anusara is funny,
did you read about John Friend?>?
http://nymag.com/news/features/john-friend-yoga-2012-4/
boned his students, got caught, then started his own new style again.

If youre into Yoga, srsly, everyone should read William Broads book-
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005GG0MKG
herein he observes the science will go 1 of 2 ways,
either it will keep diversifying, meeting contemporary needs marketed to as new formats with new funky, sexy images, and names
or,
it will be acknowledged widely as the most ancient stress management system, and integrated to all public health regimes in the world to bring out the best possibilities through national governing bodies. -

Committed. Iyengar looks appealing, and complimentary to Ashtanga.

I'm not into the philosophy/ lifestyle aspect. Just want to be in better shape, hence Ashtanga. Can understand the appeal though.

Yoga for Cyclists classes in Elephant and Castle and in East London
The next YFC course starting this Wednesday in Elephant is fully booked and I'm afraid I still haven't secured a premise for East London classes. Thanks to all those students who have made suggestions. Believe it or not, I am now officially in contact with all the venues you recommended. I am in the process of visiting them all and trying to figure out where and when this may happen at last. I will of course update you as soon as I have found somewhere suitable.
I hope to see you at one of the events!
Warm wishes,
Rebecca

Bikram is my yoga of choice, but then I play a lot of tennis and gym work mainly - cycling is 5-10 miles a day commuting.

Bodywise Yoga had to leave their premises in February this year, hence Rebecca starting another class in Elephant.
Rebecca is currently doing the last course of the year which will finish mid-December.
The next 6-week course will begin 8 January 2014 (ending 12 February). The classes are every Wednesday evening 6.15 - 7.45pm and the upfront cost of the course is £55.
I'm going to do it for sure. Is anybody else on here going?
Also, can anyone recommend some affordable (around £10) Iyengar classes in South London? Might try Yoga Point in Brixton but recommendations are always good...

• #421
I can't make Wednesday evenings due to frequent meetings but have been trying to find East London venues at Rebecca's request (she has obviously done quite a lot of searching herself) so that she will hopefully be able to teach somewhere else at some point.

I have a pretty tight chest and rolled shoulders (I stand up straight, but my shoulders just tend to come forward a bit), which means I'm really 'elbows out' when riding. Y'know, the Chris Horner look.
Can any recommended stretches / positions to try to sort it out a bit? Have done some googling but it's a bit of a minefield.

Get yourself to a good yoga instructor learn some basic yoga poses and then once you have some body awareness and control you may be able to look into more specific poses.
Simply looking at pictures of some poses to try will not teach you about correct foundation, muscle engagement, extension etc. From your description it sounds like your shoulders need some opening and strengthening, along with core and back work.
-
• #424
^ Thanks. I do some work for my core and back in the gym, so think I'm ok in that respect, I think it's just I'm really tight / tense. They do yoga classes at mygym, which I tried, but just got bored tbh. I just want some positions I can do in my own time at home really

without proper guidance trying to do yoga poses can be less than effective and potentially harmful. a lot of people's proprioception is very poor, so they think they are doing something with their body, but are actually anatomically and biomechanically pretty confused. so trying to do something just by watching a video or looking at pictures may not be a good idea.
Bodywise lunchtime classes are still in savasana and I appear to be getting love handles from the lack of bending, other than Yoga Place any recommendations for East end midday enlightenment?
