About Photoshop, if the next version fulfilled your requirement (i.e. having feature that'll greatly improve your workflow), go for it.
content aware fill look like it'll be worth getting, save me time trying to clean it up properly.

re photoshop, if you need a new feature go for a upgrade. Otherwise skip it. It's ridiculously bloated and you need more and more machine to run the new versions.
At my last workplace we all got cs4 when it came out, but everyone went back to cs3 after a week since cs4 ran slower and was buggy as fuck.
Doing websites and the occasional photo stuff, i don't really see any need to upgrade from cs3?

Yeah I'm quite happy with cs3 but content aware fill looks good and I'm also keeping in mind that once I finish my degree in less than a year I'l be using the education version illegaly.
If I wait till the end of my course though cs6 might be out or I could get a cut price cs5.
I know the college where I'm doing my degree has updated it's digital darkroom hardware over the summer but I'v not been in for any classes yet so not sure if they have updated software too.
If they've gone to cs5 I can have a play and see if it's worth the cash.

Download the trial and see if you like it?
For me cs3 to cs4 wasn't worth it but cs4 to cs5 is a quantum leap.

content aware fill isn't all that.
it's o.k but like the healing brush it still does a funny halo when getting near the edge of an area of texture and is no substitute for doing the job properly.the HDR is actually usable unlike that in cs3 (for realism not flickerhipsterwank photography)

new mac user
can someone tell me what SL is and whether or not its worth getting?
-
• #933
Snow Leopard i presume.
It's the operating system, or rather the newest version thereof.
I had asked about it a little bit upthread.
What os you using just now? -
• #934
It's more like a service pack update than an entire new os.
-
• #935
Hah, it's nothing like a service pack update... but yeah, it's a featureless update purely for performance reasons (graphics, openCL, 64-bit, etc) and visual tweaks.
If you're using a new machine (last 6 months) go for it as you'll notice the speed increase, otherwise I wouldn't really bother (some apps go haywire after the update and it's not as hassle free as Apple make out).

My imac is early 2008 so might give it a miss then.
God damn, I just can't spend money these days!

im using os x 10.6.4 on a new macbook pro, wanted to find out from users if its worth it cos if you read the wiki or the page on the apple website it seems too good to be true and Im confused as to why its not the standard operating system when you spend a lot of money on a new 'powerful' laptop
-

10.6.4 is snow leopard
and the latest version -

It's probably been answered somewhere in this thread, but I'm in a bit of a rush so don't want to read 11 pages and it not be there.
Can anyone recommend a shop/person for apple macbook repairs?

Thanks, I'll go pay them a visit.

Hello. Does anyone have 10.5 leopard disks I can borrow please, or know where I can get it?
I need to update the operating system on a G4 (which doesn't have intel) from panther.
I can't find the disks online anywhere, its all just snow leopard. -
• #950
Heeelp. I have buggered up Address Book. I'm now on 10.5.8 on a G5, and tried to import AB from 10.4.summat from my G4. Result - total fick up. The G5 is second hand, and I didn't get the discs with it, and the g4 version of AB won't run on it, though I have those discs.
Any answers? Thanks all...
Going back to my ram dilema, I heard that you can fit a 2gb and a 4gb card in the imacs that take ddr2 memory and that it will run well but if you go for 2 x 4gb cards it crashes.
I have just ordered 2 x 2gb cards from crucial as I decided that would be enough of an upgrade for me and by using the system selector on their site I was sure to order the right type of memory.
Considering upgrading to Snow Leopard seeing as I saved a bit on memory.
K-Boy said on the last page that it speeds things up a bit, anyone else using it and wish to extol it's virtues to me?
Might upgrade my photoshop too, currently using cs3 which is actually fine but content aware fill looks amazing.
Anyone know if Adobe do educational discount on full version upgrades?
I have educational cs3 just now but don't see the point in upgrading to another educational version as i'l be out of education in less that 12 months.
The full upgrade isn't too expensive but if I can get it discounted then I might as well.
