Yeah Corsair is another reputable brand. I've never had any trouble with all three mentioned. You sure you're not a bit too staticy lucas? :)

I've always bought ram from crucial and never had any issues
I'd be wary of putting 8gb in a mac that's specced to max 4gb. I looked into it for my macbook pro (from 08) and people have tried with 8gb. One guy had it working great for a month, then the computer just suddenly turned itself off and died. Another one got a flickering screen, didn't look like fun.
Going from 2 to 4 is a huge difference though, it literally made my mac workable again

Also, getting snow leopard on there seems to speed things up

Trying to get an old G4 powerbook (MacOSX 10.4) to see a Windows server over VPN. VPN connects fine, but when I try to connect to the server it keeps saying name/password is incorrect. I know the server address, name/password and workgroup names are all correct (I've used the same details to login via a PC), but I just can't get the mac to play nicely. Windows sharing is ON. If anybody could give me a clue it would be much appreciated! I f@cking hate networking...

Apple + K to open up connections. where it says APK (or AKP, it's the first 3 letters) change that to SMB:\
Thay should link up then. It's best to then create a small app in the automator to mount the drive when you boot up.

^^ thanks chaps - had already tried these but no joy. I don't know if there's some obscure setting in Network or Sharing prefs I should be playing with maybe? I'm not great at this sort of thing...

tobehonest, it's been years since I looked at 10.4.
Are you able to see your networked drive from another windows based system?
Can you go from PC to MAC / share printers etc?

^^ Can't test that at the mo'. I might just do a quick Leopard boot disk and see if it works from that - maybe it's a Tiger thing? I particularly enjoyed the IT maestro's take on the other end of the phone - I could almost see his eyes rolling into the back of his head when I said I had a mac :-0

This is the second time that mine has died, bloody nightmare!I don't, but it might worth getting a chinese "OEM" battery from ebay. Have had good luck with mine, much cheaper than buying from apple. Has a very cheap looking button to light up the charge indicator, but other than that seems good.

seems like I need a battery too... not sure i want to try a chinese copy though. Saying that, the feedback the apple batteries gets on the site is pretty far from great

I was also skeptical, but my office got it for me since the assumption is they're shit either way and likely made with components from the same factory. Not trying to endorse the knock-offs, who knows what you'll get - just saying mine's been fine and they might be worth a look.

Tried the same thing with my iBook, I bought a battery on ebay that was official apple but was sold as untested ... got 6 hours on a single charge, compared to my dell ultraportable where I get 2 hours :(

only if it expired under warranty, or a defect product.
a lots of apple product are defect ayhow, Apple just doesn't says a thing about it and only make it look like they're doing it for free out of good service.

Probably won't replace something as old as my iBook G4 Battery (any powerpc Macs are pretty much now legacy).
Shame because the iBook G4 12inch is a really nice bit of kit.

You should check out NewerTech battery then, they're as the name suggested.

they've swapped sides and gone to microsoft?
Check that your mac can take ddr3 ram, most of the new motherboards can. If it can I'd just buy the best ddr3 ram I can for the money you've got, job done.
