you could pop to one of the albion resellers and pay them £65 instead?
-
• #8178
*without paying Apple £65 or anyone else for that matter..
-
• #8179
Small price to pay for not trashing your laptop...

I should have made it clear that the laptop is on its last legs and this is a temporary solution until I get another. I've gone ahead with the Apple one though...

How much does it cost to replace the battery in an iPhone 4s?
Got a hand-me-down and the battery is only 75% design capacity. -

It looks like someone else here is looking, but if anyone has an extra 60w magsafe power adapter for 13-inch macbook pro they'd like to sell, I'll take it off your hands. For collection in London only, please. PM me, thanks.

I'm probably going to need a mini-laptop to carry around a bit/abroad as I don't want to take my monster 15" in case I smash it up or it goes walkies without me. 8GB ram is a must. Probably need it by Monday. Find a second hand air quickly? buy a new air? go for the sexy sexy Macbook? Your thoughts, please.

New Macbook for me but i'm a sucker for new tech.

I replaced the battery on my 4 (I think it would be similar for the 4S).
£5 for a battery and tools off ebay and about 15 minutes using the iFixit guide. Definitely not an official battery but it worked fine and didn't explode.
-

Very easy to do yourself, especially on the 4s. If you google iPhone parts a few of the top sites will usually have genuine batteries for no more then £10. Replacing it takes 10-15 mins, just follow the ifixit guide.

I did this too, but on a 5. I was a little unprepared so had a weird moment burning my phone with a lighter to melt the glue, but now its as good as the day I got it.
A tip: Don't buy a battery rated higher than the OEM one (usually gold). They're just relabled seconds/recycled and if they work at all they'll be of less quality.

been looking at 2nd hand air on ebay for a while now, there aint that many with 8gb around and people tend to want silly money... I am about to bite the bullet and get a new air for the same reason, my repalcement 15 inch is lovely, but the thought of carrying it everyday kills me... macbook is just too expensive.

ta.
11 inch air w/ 8gb, 128gb ssd = 830
12 inch macbook - 8gb w 256 ssd = 1049. 200 quid isn't much really considering the extra storage and retina.
for me the real decision is whether lack of retina is a deal breaker or not. not sure if I can live without the pixelz. -

Do it. Space Grey Macbook is teh sex.
-
• #8191
Which is why I bought a 13-inch pro to begin with... are you also looking at the 13-inch air? If so, you might as well go for the pro, they weight pretty much the same and the air is actually a tough larger, tinner yes, but larger.
But if size really matters, then the decison is made really, 11-inch...

can you live without ever plugging anything in?
can you live with thermal throttling (more than 50%, 2000 > 800hz!! ). -
• #8193
refurbed 2014's were <800 last time I looked.

It needs to be able to typeset and make simple graphs in indesign/illustrator. It needs to be in my hand by Friday PM. It needs to function without mains power for approx 5 hours. No peripherals, nothing else. That's all.
Primary work machine is a 15" MBP plugged into a thunderbolt display, and I plan to keep it that way for the foreseeable, so I'm ok for intensive use, and I'm happy enough to carry that about for work when I have to. I just want something a little more portable that I can sling in a pannier on tour without losing space or risking my main work machine really, but without compromising what I can do on it.

Had a play with the new MacBook the other day. It's amazing. Into the keyboard too. 13 inch airs look clumsy in comparison and I can't handle non retina anymore. I'd say MacBook or rMBP over a 13 inch Air but maybe look at going ultra small and cheap and get a basic 11 inch Air.

This.
So nice. -

I don't think you can get a brand new 8GB from apple on time for Friday, their current despatch time is 3-5 working days and that's not delivery time, it takes about a week to get to your door.

I am debating if it's worth upgrading the RAM or even the cpu on a base model 11-inch Air... £644 for a basic air is rather tempting.
-
• #8199
Can you upgrade the RAM on the Air?
edit - turn out you can't;
Every MacBook Air comes with 4GB of memory built into the system. If
you feel you may need 8GB in the future, it is important to upgrade at
the time of purchase, as RAM is not upgradeable in this model. -

Exactly. The are 500 here in Colombia, anyone want one? Ha.
I'm sure it's been asked before, but I couldn't find anything on the search function. Can anyone tell me somewhere I could buy a macbook charger (like the one attached) in Central London without paying Apple £65!?
