Looking for some mac advice.
I have a word file still open which seems to have frozen while I was still working on it. (a couple pages not saved yet). It is showing the spinning busy cursor thing, so I have just left it running for a while, put my computer in standby a couple times but it is still stuck in busy.
This has actually happens fairly often when working on word files. There seems to often develop some lag in what is being written compared to how fast I type. And then sometimes it freezes up like this. I was wondering what the problem could be as my macbook is pretty high spec still. I think its 2.4ghz x2. I cannot see a reason for it to be so slow & crashy on word.

DFP.. are you using a Universal build of Word or a PowerPC version?
If it's the latter then update to a more recent version as it will cause hangs/stalls on your Intel machine, for better performance turn off spell/grammar check on the fly and auto-save.
The latest version of Office for Mac has just been announced and should be bug free.

I might. Have too look around.
I know for sure, that I have 10.6 and 10.5, because they sit on the rack in front of me.
Also, I've just found the 10.3 with the whole G4 restore set and diagnostic tools. -

thanks eei but the mac is ppc and it's already loaded with 10.3, and according the posts above i'm guessing leopard etc is no good for it .

10.4 (Tiger) would be best for your (any) G5... 10.5 Leopard will give you more features/bells/whistles but will run noticeably slower.

Too many forums and postings for me to find a definitive answer to my mac problem, so I thought I'd ask a trusty bike forum.
Work have upgraded 2 of our macs which means they're on Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Obviously this has foobah'd the fonts as they all have missing extensions. This has been rectified short term by saving a copy on to the desktops, but since we're about to purchase a whole load of fonts and migrate to Suitcase Fusion, I'd like to have all the fonts on a central server.
Is there a straight forward answer on how to get the font extensions back on snow leopard? And if you're really bored, these macs don't have the ability to pdf separations any more which has messed us up somewhat.

not my area but surprised this problem isn't well documented and a solution available.
mind you apple are now a gadget manufacturer and seem to be ignoring their pro users. WTF was no firewire on last years laptops all about?!?

Ha, well put MrSmyth.
It's a well known problem as far as I can tell but Apple haven't really addressed it other than to say something about older font types not working with 10.6. Rubbish.
Firewire ftw. -

Hi,
I have found out that I could claim for my broken Macbook Pro on my home insurance. However I donated it to a charity last week! I have photographs but the insurance people want an instruction manual. Does anyone have one I could borrow for a few weeks? It was the older Macbook Pro, not the glossy new one.

I have the instruction manual for a Fiat Uno (Formula 91 version) and a Yamaha amp (first digital home cinema version) if that'll do you?
