I initially bought the Dell Ultrasharp 27", same panel but the anti-reflective coating made it absolutely useless for my purposes... I sent it straight back and got a Thunderbolt... The Dell would probably be fine for Facebook and YouTube... At a push...
Was it this one?
Reading online about monitors and it's a right mess. Half the reviewers have no clue whatsoever, and the other half just re-hashes the press release. Surely there must be a decent alternative to apple screens?

I spent some time online chatting with O2 retentions yesterday. I currently have an iPhone 4 and my bill is £37 a month. I'm 2 years overdue an upgrade. The best deal they would do is scrap the upfront charge for a 16BG IP5s at £37/month or £59 upfront for 32BG IP5s still at £37/month. I pushed hard to get the monthly payments down but they kept saying the prices are fixed and they can't do anything. I tried for a free 32GB phone but again they could only go down to £59.
tl:dr
I've just bought the phone outright and will get a giffgaff or tesco sim at £10/month
Well, iPhone has always been the very few phones that network won't cut you a deal. I have been with O2 for well over 10 years and I could get most phone I want for free or very cheap and I usually get up to 40% dicount on my monthly payment. iPhone is just one of those bitches...

Very... althought I haven't really had time to push it properly... and that thing doesn't make a noise!! :-D

I am not sure, how do I check? Sorry, never had any retina display things... ever

in your screen resolution,
youll either be running 1440x900 (or something) at 2x
or 'extended' at like 1680x1080 (i think?) so one is retina, the other is more 'real estate'

Can I get help from Apple experts, please?
I am trying to remotely (over the phone, so I don't actually know what is happening exactly) to help a friend to revive her Mac that is currently showing the flashing globe icon. She has tried turning the machine off completely by holding the buttoon for 10 seconds, then hold down the alt key upon turning on after the sound, that did nothing. We then tried to go into recovery mode by holding down command + R, that didn't give her the menu of the recoevy system. Any other bright idea?

I had the U2711... Dell really dropped the ball with the anti-glare coating, ruined a perfectly good monitor... That ^ might be an improved version tho', have a look at one first...
I was looking at Eizos as well but it's stupid money...

Read some more reviews about it, and it has lots of ghosting when you scroll high contrast stuff, ie words on a page.
there's another dell one step up but it comes out at 800 with vat, so apple one is just 100 more and will hold value better

On the verge of being updated though...

That means there is no disc to start up... so you need plug in a bootable USB drive and see what that tell ya...

smells like 4k monitor to me, really don't want that for work. Retina macbook + standard display will give me best of both worlds
-
• #5693
I know, she doesn't have a a bootabledrive nor access to the Internet... an IT guy from college had a look and said he couldn't find the hard drive when he tried to look for it using a differnet Mac... I am gonna take the machine home tomorrow and have a go myself...
-
• #5694
So that means the HD is dead... like the IT guy said.
-
• #5695
not necessarily, my IT guy at work, in fact 2 of them are stil hopeful that it's not the end. So we will see.

Can't believe I've only just stumbled across this thread!
Massive mac fan, got my MBP 13" in 2008 and still going strong, looking to upgrade my iPhone 4s and notebook when the new ones come out. 626 days since the last mac update, hoping they're doing to do something special with it, it's look the same since 2008..

I hope my monitor survives until 4k screens are the norm. I have a Samsung 2343BW which is 23" but runs 2048x1152 (QWXGA) resolution. Haven't seen that res in years. I'm not saying it's the best colour/panel etc.. I just like the extra realestate.
That said, can a MBP retina do that weird resolution ? Monitor is DVI only, no Tbolt/HDMI

They won't be making MacBooks for long James, Air's and Retina's are the way forward, both great machines. Hold out for a iPhone 6, it'll be a big upgrade...
