Correct. Pretty sure it can only take 10.7

£14! Pfffft. I'll be lucky if I can get £200 for it. Doesn't seem worth it. Though I was shocked how fast it runs, though my Dad only used it for Excel and sending emails infrequently, so makes sense.

what is it running at the moment?

• #5655
I have SL on disc somewhere... if thats of any use?
-
• #5656
I miss SL. That was where Apple peaked.
-
• #5657
What do you miss about it? everyone bangs on about it but I never felt it was any better than the other releases...
The SSL fuck up is a bit bad though... been there since SJ died... which might say something about Apple since, or might not... -

I miss Steve Jobs, that was when Apple was truly Apple.

The SSL fuck up is a bit bad though... been there since SJ died... which might say something about Apple since, or might not...It was pretty much the perfect mix of stability and features. Never crashed and passed the "my mum can use this" test. It was pretty much the moment that they got the mix right for pro and home user alike.
It's all too feature heavy now - makes the machines half as quick as they should be... not to mention the dumbed down OS. Mavericks feels like using a really big iPhone. Shit, basically! -
• #5661
and they still haven't sorted out IMAP with Mac Mail ffs.
-
• #5662
A lot of folks go on about "dumbing down", thats how I felt when switching from 9 to X... I kept on 9 for a long time but in the end got over it...
I have never really noticed much difference since though... a few features here and there and a few less grads... -
• #5663
mail and calendar is still shit, everything else I quite like. Part from the colour-marking of files, was better before
-
• #5664
I miss 9!
-
• #5665
Oh yeah... colour marking is Awful!

• #5666
The problem of slowing down older machines was definitely a problem with Lion and Mountain Lion, but I'd happily put Mavericks on an older machine. Feel like things got back on track a bit.
That said, we're still using SL at work and will keep with it till we're forced to upgrade.

Works fine on mine? Usually it's a problem with the server. What error are you getting?
-
• #5668
It's got 10.6 on it. Should be fine I guess.

• #5669
my iphone needs to get in the bin
iP4 is now unbareably slow

I seem to be getting some slight headaches when using my new retina MBP, anyone gets the same problem? Not a major issue, just I still somewhat prefer a normal screen, maybe because I spend more time using a normal screen (i.e work) than this, I think it might just be a adjustability issue...

so I am looking at whether or not I want to get a new iPhone. 5s 16GB direct from Apple is £549, I am with o2, just looked at their tariffs etc, if I were to choose the £27 a month plan for a 24 months contact, I would still have to pay a minimum of £520 for the phone? Is that a joke? I know iPhones are not as heavily discounted as some other phones, but £29 off the RRP and still a minimum of 2 years contract? Am I missing something?
-
• #5672
buy it outright and sim only it if you can afford it
-
• #5673
I always have, but I thougth it doesn't hurt to look at the prices etc.
-
• #5674
But it outright, get giffgaff.
I used to pay o2 20-30 quid each month, now I top up with a tenner a month tops, sometimes every other month. No change in phone use, just not getting ripped off anymore

I spent some time online chatting with O2 retentions yesterday. I currently have an iPhone 4 and my bill is £37 a month. I'm 2 years overdue an upgrade. The best deal they would do is scrap the upfront charge for a 16BG IP5s at £37/month or £59 upfront for 32BG IP5s still at £37/month. I pushed hard to get the monthly payments down but they kept saying the prices are fixed and they can't do anything. I tried for a free 32GB phone but again they could only go down to £59.
tl:dr
I've just bought the phone outright and will get a giffgaff or tesco sim at £10/month
C2d? I have no idea to be honest... but I my dead old MBP runs it well... 2.3 C2D... same era, doubt it's 64bit.
