Too rich for my blood, gonna see how my current set-up pans out...

Erm, I wouldn't know about 3D things I'm afraid... runs everything else fine, even games although it does get a wee bit warm... the SSD makes a huge difference, its faster than my quad i7 iMac at work...
-
• #4579
if it's ok with games should be fine. I think.
any reason for you selling it other than lack of screen?
will it connect to old generic monitors ok, it doesn't have to be mac specific? -
• #4580
Erm, I have a VGA adaptor I think?
No other reason, I love it, and it was quite a chore and expense to get the extra bay/drive in, but I can't face a non apple monitor so if I'm going to pay 900 I might as well pay 1500 and get an iMac...
Great logic there. -
• #4581
ha! all the logic.
ok lemme think about it today, I'll get back to you.
and I feel like maybe you should have a "deciding to sell" cooling off period too, in case you reconsider. is it on OS10.8? I have avoided upgrading OS for so long... I dunno if my softwarez will work but it's probably a good way of catching up (I'm always like "not now! something might go wrong! no down time!") -
• #4582
I've got a VGA adapter I'm happy to throw at you if needs be. The mini's got an HDMI port in the back so with an HDMI>DVI cable you'll be sorted for modern monitors. I love mine, even though I never really got the use out of it that I should have and it's now been overtaken by my shinyshiny mbpr. They're tidy, unobtrusive, competent little machines.

cheers 6pt. I had one. I even endured a visit to the apple store to get it (rates as one of my worst retail experiences in recent memory) but now I just have the box. I have no idea where it is :/
this could be one big step into modernity for me :)

-

Elementary question:
But If I have the same files on an alternate user will they take up double the space?
-
• #4587
if they're in the user's home directories then yes as they'll be duplicates.
it's better to make a folder on the root of the hard drive and put the files in there so everyone can access them from their own accounts.
this is a little more complicated if you're talking about itunes librarys or whatever but i'm sure there's how-to's that cover doing it online.

Wow. On a saver bender at the mo, but ssd is planned for october
-
• #4592
really tempted with a Samsung 840 Evo thing... I have the 830 already and notice a massive difference between games on the SSD and ones on the HD.

NOW I remember why the fuck I hate Apple. I have an iPhone. Need to put an mp3 on there. No access to iTunes here. Have VLC installed, but can't drag and drop a file.
WHY THE FUCK NOT ? What the fuck is the retarded reason that Apple will not allow drag and drop ? How the fuck do I get around this (without Jailbreaking as work will remotely disable the phone if I do that).
-
• #4594
By downloading iTunes and dragging the files into it.
-
• #4595
I think I'm gonna upgrade my MBP to SSD, prices have come down loads!

That's not really an answer. Why on gods earth do I need iTunes when every other phone OS on the planet supports standard drag and drop ?
-
• #4597
^^Cold boot to desktop in 6 seconds on mine. No going back.

I paid £20 for that iCloud music match bollocks. Amazingly useful. All my music available to download/stream on any apple device I have; a nice way of getting a lot more than 16gb of music out of my iPad and having new library additions appear instantly on whatever thing I'm currently using.

all I want to do is sync a mp3 from the c25k plan. It's not for $$$, it's not on iTunes store, and I don't / can't install iTunes where I am.
Fuck it, I guess I'll just stream the damn thing via the web. Seems retarded that I can do that perfectly fine WITHOUT iTunes, but I can't download + play it via Music ...
this is super tempting. you do graphics, yes? will it run CAD/3D ok? (no ridiculous 3D renders, just simple stuff)
