  • hmm still pricey

  • Not if you buy second hand. Seriously, best thing ever. Processor/Ram is 2002 boasting. SSD's make a machine so much faster, before this one went in the laptop was literally unusable... (I think thew hard drive was slowly failing, but still...)
8GB ram + SSD and you are flying.

  • I convinced work to get me 32GB ram and 512GB SSD essentially to be on the forum ;)

  • HAHAH BOOM!
I worked on a Macpro with 32gb ram and an SSD for a week or so, would of been daft faast if I wasn't working on 20gb PS files. Yes 20gb! (4m high 300DPI pixel based print file, WHY?!?)

  • Just got my Thunderbolt 27 back from repair, turned out there was just a bit of moisture behind the glass...

http://www.amsys.co.uk picked up my monitor, took it apart, cleaned and dried it out, checked the electronics then ran a 24hr test to make sure everything was functioning properly before driving it back to me...

They charged me just £39.99... Amazing A1 service... Totally recommended...

  • ^Want

  • Yep. Can't believe my old battered laptop is usable again thanks to Amey and Photoben... thanks again guys.
2007 MBP running Mountain Lion and CS6 a dream... battery lasts a decent amount of time and everything. Roll on Mavericks.

    amazing.
ok, any mac whisperers out there? can pay in cake.
are Genius Bar actually any good at diagnosing elderly macs or just flogging new stuff? I've never been in.

  • What do you need? Just to replace HDD with SSD? Thats easy depending on what generation mac. You can find tutorials here: http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Mac

  • no, I want to know what's wrong with my mac before I spend £ on SSD. I don't know if it's really just a storage issue, maybe other components are tired? In case you hadn't guessed, I don't know much about how the things works.

mind you it actually performs better than my partner's 2009 solid case one, which has always seemed slow and ran hot.

  • Tried using Onyx? Will make a massive difference...

  • after using external keyboard and mouse for over a year I just did this:
    http://jasonrobb.com/v2/2008/11/24/macbook-pro-unresponsive-keyboard-trackpad-solution/
and it bloody works. needed more pressure than a bit of paper though.

thought, hmm, maybe the screen connection just needs a wiggle too?
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Replacing+MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Core+2+Duo+Models+A1226+and+A1260+Display+Data+Cable/1312/1

maybe I do just need to bit the bullet and buy some tools and learn how to take the thing apart, give it a clean etc. It's not making the hideous buzzing today, back to normal fan noises.

  • Tried using Onyx? Will make a massive difference...

no, I'll check it out, thanks.

  • can anyone help me get my CS5 "licence key" installed?

  • Just managed to get my Apple TV working, bit of a pain in the arse, not as intuitive as you would imagine...

Now how do I get the OS to see the films I have on my external hard drive? Will it only work with legit movies purchased at the iTunes store?

  • I've recently replaced my old iMac (20-inch iMac (Early 2006), 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo) due to a fault with the screen. It was a bit of an impulse buy as we needed a computer and didn't have time to wait around for repairs and stuff. The screen fault was fairly mild , in that it was as though the gamma was turned right down and any motion resulted in ghosting/trails.

So now I have this old iMac just sitting in a box, working fine bar the screen, and am not sure what to do with it. Repair and then sell? Or is there somewhere that will take it in it's current state?

  • Wish Apple would hurry up and announce the new MBP for sale. I hate with a passion this pos dell work gave me and am going to buy my own laptop instead.

  • Argh... ACD died last night... thats another expense I really dont need right now.

  • ...or just buy an iMac.... anyone interested in a mac mini? 2.3 i5 500GB + 128 GB SSD 8GB ram?

  • How much, Chris?

  • Not sure... bit of a hard one to work out? Custom like. Errr?

  • Just got 550 from Mac2sell with only the 128... errm...?

  • I got mine for £400, same spec as yours without the SSD (from the thread you got your trackpad from ;) )
    lowballing on teenslain's behalf

  • Oi! Mine has 2 HDD's and ones an SSD... so £550 at least...

  • yeah... maybe. I've never used one, I've used the big towers and imacs.
but I use my laptop at home with an external screen and keyboard, why not a mac mini?
are they portable in the sense that you can carry them to the office and set up there if need be?

any reason why I wouldn't want one? (srs question, please explain in simple terms for simpletons)

  • Basically, same insides as a 13inch MBP but half the price. And yep, could pop in your bag and take anywhere...
