  • Can anyone recommend a good 3G dongle to use with a MacBook? Preferably wifi but USB is an option.

  • Is CS6 OK to run on Mountain Lion? Any nasties I should know about?

I'm still on Lion, just bought an Apple TV but the OS doesn't wanna talk to the ATV and vice versa...

In the middle of a couple of jobs so don't wanna screw my system up... I suppose I could always rewind Time Machine but I thought I'd ask here...

    Cheers...

  • If you can wait a week ill have my old laptop back to life with that set up... Can feed back.

  • If its USB, I found the three with the 3 months 3gb sim card decent... Always allowed me to email, send work and not have to wory about if BT Openzone was gonna connect....

  • Where can I get replacement pads for the base of my MacBook - y'know, the black knobbly things?

There only appear to be two left...

  • Aw thanks Soul :)

  • Joe- CS6 is fine with mountain lion, that's what I run on my mbp.
Only thing is if your cs ain't legit and you're running little snitch upgrading OS can fuck around with that sometimes, so check it before connecting to network, if you've got a proper copy then you'll be fine

  • Also regards to the iPhone 3GS restore/pictures problem, once iPhone is connected to your mac run Image Capture, it will show picture content of your iPhone same as if you connected a digital camera and you can copy them off from there. Software is part of OS so will be on your mac already just search for it in spotlight
iTunes might not even push you to restore, sometimes it needs to activate through iTunes. Either way it will ask you before restoring, it won't do it automatically.

I'm running CS6 on the latest Mountain Lion. Not had any problems, but I'm no power user. Only really use Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat.

  • Man, I spend hours yesterday trying to retrieve a blank dvd from the optical drive of my imac. Tried every fix i could find on teh netz but none worked as the drive wasn't registering the disc and just kept spooling up, clunking horribly then starting again. Ended up with a cake-slice coated in sticky tape jammed in the slot rapidly losing patience and in danger of frying the machine and myself.

Eventually leaving it for a few hours and re-booting in single user mode (for about the tenth time) spat it out. Can't really blame the machine as when it did eventually reappear it turns out that the disc I'd been trying to burn, being the last one in the stack, had got a blank circle of clear plastic stuck to it. I don't noticed and had jammed both into the drive.

Can anyone remind me how to get a file I've imported onto my itunes library to synch to the cloud and then to my tethered iphone? I've done it before but I also recall being stumped by this before... something about... nope. I can't remember how to do it. *googles

  • Thanks, guys... Will give it a shot and see what happens...

  • my 2007 macbook pro is making a helluva lot of noise again.
want to buy a new one, but seems they're due an update soon. or are they just not going to update it now and concentrate on the "retina display" versions? not sure whether to keep on limping on with this, it might blow up at any minute. which would presumably make transferring a bit trickier. I have Time Machine, it does its thing but I've never tried to use it to restore anything.

thinking I would get it with a 256GB SSD upgrade. slightly worried about Mountain Lion with older apps, everything legit but tends to be a few years behind. don't have any other "devices" to sync with but need to be able to plug it in old-school to a monitor, CAD dongle, printer, USB storage, mouse... the usual.

  • Another thing you can do is take out the disk drive and put a SSD in the space there - then use an external drive if you need one. Was tempted to try this when I still used my macs

  • SSD in my current limpy mac? isn't it too old for those kind of larks?

  • I've just installed one in Chris's one. Took about 15mins. Upgrade the ram too. Those 2007 macbook pros are awesome. And it'll run 10.8.

  • Oh Chris, you might find Airdrop, the new feature about to appear on iOS 7 won't show up on you Macbook Pro even with 10.8. Simply go into terminal, drop this code:
    defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser BrowseAllInterfaces 1
    enter, then input this code:
    killall Finder
Enter and quit. You should find Airdrop will appear in finder now, which is really handy for transferring files.

  • Ben, you are a true gent. Mbp is back up and running, installing cs etc ATM. Really appreciate the help. Hope the beers go down well. Great to meet you too!

Cant belive I've never found airdrop, what a cracking idea for switching stuff between diffrent macs..

  • Turns out I've got a dodgy 3rd gen Apple TV unit...

    Bollox...

CS6 running fine on Mountain Lion tho'... Cheers for the heads up!

sounds good. could I get a SSD that I could then put in a new MBP when I eventually get one?
how do I get my macbook's ailments diagnosed? I mean, it's making a fairly extreme noise, a metallic buzzing not just noisy fans. something might be borked that would make changing the drive pointless, no?

Yep. Can't believe my old battered laptop is usable again thanks to Amey and Photoben... thanks again guys.
2007 MBP running Mountain Lion and CS6 a dream... battery lasts a decent amount of time and everything. Roll on Mavericks.

  • ^ all from an SSD?

i might take the plunge and move to 8GB of ram and an SSD then

  • SSD is the new processor/RAM
