  • for the LULs

  • I posted a while ago about the volume keys not working on my wired aluminium keyboard and since then I've tried to investigate but the only result of that was that I broke a few keys.

I want a replacement but aluminium keyboard are spendy, anyone know if there'd be any issues using an A1048 keyboard (see below) with my 2008 imac? I imagine it'll be fine and despite the A1048 not having the volume, skip etc logos on the fn keys I'm hoping they'll work.

  • Should be fine. I think i've used mine on my new laptop...

  • is there a better mouse option then the Apple wireless mouse? I find it a bit hit and miss - eats batteries, loses connection.........

  • anything with a string?

    literally anything.

  • isn't there a nice 3rd party wireless option? string is so...........Microsoft

The Logitech Performance MX is easily the best mouse for Mac: http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/mice-pointers/mice/5845

It's rechargeable (but can still use AA batteries), can work plugged in via USB as well. It also has 4 thumb buttons that can be programmed for anything you like (I have expose, show desktop and forward / back in browser) along with a free float scroll wheel that can also be mechanically locked for finer scrolling.

    Super nice.

  • nice...but pricey?

    Cheers I'll check it out

  • Worth the money though.

The last one I had (mx revolution) lasted for 5 years before I snapped the charger by accident. If you can find an MX Revolution charger on eBay you're welcome to my old one of those for £20...

  • **Where to buy a new battery?

**Daughters MacBook 13" in white isn't charging the battery, if you remove the power lead it shuts down.

    Battery cycle count is 301.

Where best to get a new battery? I have heard that buying a none genuine Apple battery is a false saving but Apple want £101.00 for a new one. Would rather not spend that much if possible!

Any suggestions on where to look for a new battery (that will last)?

    Thanks!!

    Bump - anyone??

  • Anyone have any slow scrolling issues in Chrome on Mountain Lion? Just got a new MBA and scrolling the hip hop slaves bike thread in Chrome is really slow. Jumpy almost. However in Safari it is as smooth as anything. Weird. Don't want to have to use Safari.

  • Anyone hear about the iHole on BBC yesterday?

    worth a listen!

  • Some screen grabs from Apple maps

    I liked this:-

  • Anyone bought a mac duty free?
I'm travelling to Oz probably via Changi airport and wondering if I can save money getting it duty free or if I'll get whacked with tax at the other end. Plus will they let me on the plane with a 27" iMac as well as hand luggage?

You'll get stung for duty: Aussie customs are pretty strict on things over $1000AUD. Especially if you've got a whacking great iMac box on your luggage trolley.

Also - slim chance of getting it on at Changi - you need to go through security a second time at the gate. I doubt you'd get an iMac into a scanner.

  • What's the crack with posting yourself the reciepts / documentation and pretending it was already yours?

  • Buy a laptop at Heathrow (instant 20% off), chuck the box, get a 27" monitor in Oz...

  • I need top spec, I'm expanding my portfolio and going digital. Or something.

Don't they sell them at Changi though? Surely they'll let you on if you bought it duty free.
Good knowledge though, cheers mr Tom.
Is for defo on $1000+ tax?

  • The allowance per head is $900, which isn't much. It's like booze: you can buy as much duty-free as you like, but you'll have to pay duty once you get past a couple of litres.

When are you flying out? I'll be going through Changi in November, and can scope it out for you.

  • Yeah thought so, but there are 2 of us so that could work.

We're leaving in a week and a half, but thanks anyway mate.

I guess I'll just work it out when I'm there.

  • So to update update iOS or not?

  • Dont

  • Nope.
