Banging my head against the wall with watching avi and xvid on my iPad.
I bought a Kingston wi drive which has its own app to watch them through which only supports iOS ready formats. There's an option to 'open with' and none of the av player style apps work.
Any work arounds? I don't have time to convert the files.

Flexplayer is an app that plays video without any file conversion, it's pretty good: [https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flex-player/id451024857?mt=8

I've used CineXplayer for avi's and xvids. Seems to work for me. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/cinexplayer-best-way-to-enjoy/id384098375?mt=8

a friend in India wants to buy a macbook pro retina 15";
Is there anyone on the forum who can help with apple employee discount + I am going to india in November so I can buy a week before and claim VAT back which is £326 -
• #3585
Can you not get them in india?
I'd suggest to your friend that they buy them locally if possible. So far I'm on my second, soon to be third. They seem to be having a few screen issues, and with samsung apparently being the better screens (than LG) and samsung pulling away from apple - things are probably set to get worse.
Unless of course it doesn't matter where you buy it from re: apple care / repairs / replacements etc.

Think Apple care is global, but don't quote me on it. I got my old MBP in the states and had the graphics card fixed here under warranty

Hi all, Does anyone have a Snow Leopard disk I could borrow. Updated my phone to ios6 and now it wont sync to my computer, I want to upgrade to the iphone 5 so need to get all my stuff off the old phone - very annoying.
I also can't seem to get snow leopard online as the new mountain lion has just come out and made it obsolete!
Please Help! -

^ I might have Snow Leopard as a .dmg that I might be able to send you via Dropbox. I'll investigate over the weekend if you like.

I have mountain lion .dmg if you need it

• #3591
Probably noob question, but I'm rather new to apple -
can I install an OSX (dmg format) from an USB stick?
Is it able to see the stick on startup, and boot from it? -
• #3592
That would be awesome

• #3593
I would love it please but don't I need to install snow leopard first? Or is there a way around this?

Thought i'd gauge some interest on here...
I just picked up the quad core i7 Mac Mini and so i'm selling my 2007 Alu iMac (2.4Ghz c2d etc). It's been jazzed up with 4Gb of Ram and a 128Gb SSD so runs very quickly for day to day things like web browsing and light photoshop use.
Anyone interested at £350? Comes boxed but without keyboard or mouse... It's in A1 condition apart from about a 1 square inch in the very bottom left of the monitor. It has succumbed to the common dust behind the screen issue so there is some mottling which you can see when on a white screen.

My magsafe 60w charger has broken down again.
Does anyone know where i could get a new/genuine one at a decent price?
Or shall i just get some cheap replacement from ebay?
Thanks -

me too. have bumped the ram to 16gb already and am considering my options for an ssd now.
am quite disappointed they underspec'd the server version though. £180 more simply for an extra 1tb drive and the os x server software is just not enough of an incentive.
shame as I really wanted the extra drive bay but couldn't justify it for that price when I can get a decent high speed external drive for much less.

^ 16Gb of ram & the Samsung 830 256Gb drive arrived this morning. Being fitted tonight.

Seems like quite a fair price to me, depending on how bad the mottling is. can i ask did you fit the SSD yourself? Was it difficult? Use the same model at work, don't think i'll be able to convince the boss to get me a newer one, but he might go for an SSD, would have to do the work myself though

^ the mottling is very minor. It can also be fixed if you want to take it apart and delaminate the LCD (not as hard as it sounds).
As for the SSD, i have fitted three of them now in different macs and it't pretty simple if you have the right tools. The best guide on how to do it is here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+20-Inch+EMC+2133+and+2210+Hard+Drive+Replacement/1008/1
Thanks guys.
