It's the same one. Not quite sure why they charge you that much though.

is it not to do with the video outputs? DVi this that and the other.
Assuming the card physically is the same, would there be firmware which would make a mac version different from a pc version.
If not, would be cool to grab one for a hundred quid

I did that once when I managed somehow to delete all the keyboard layouts. Unlike Windows there isn't a fall-back USA one built in.
I had to do everything by copying and pasting letters from a web browser or using the mouse keys thing.
but it sounds like the USB is kaput

it's a LAPTOP
-
• #1933
I used to get the same thing occasionally when waking from 'deep sleep' (the dashboard widget I no longer bother with). It would sort itself out after a lengthy wait, or after shutting down/restarting.
Maybe a quick go with the hammer?

the hammer is the next option.
tried restarting, resetting, removing the battery etc....

Plug in an external keyboard and see if it works... could be logic board controller, or built-in keyboard, or bad OS, loads of things really.

I assumed this meant you had tried plugging an external one in
-
• #1937
going to try another external keyboard......
-
• #1938
ok, it all works ticketty boo with an external keyboard (thanks mike)
so what do i do now?
haven't got the original OS disk, but have on an external drive. -

Now it's "working", see if Hardware Test brings anything up and see if there are any weird input/output devices missing under "About this Mac".
I'd replace the internal keyboard.
-
• #1940
i have changed the internal keyboard, no change.
a hardware test can only be done with the startup disk, which i no longer have :(and devices look ok
-
• #1941
You know what to do…
-
• #1942
You can use any disk from a similar model, or take it to the Apple store?
Or backup and re-install as an instant fix for any software based issue.
Could be the controller, logic board, etc... which means using an external for good unless you want to pay through the nose/have warranty.

204 Pin SO DIMM DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz 2x2GB (4GB)
this is from a new macbookpro, it will fit in a imac if it's DDR3 1333 compatible so basically a 2010 or 2011 model.
if you have a 2010 imac with 4gb you have 2 slots spare for this extra 4gb.
about £35 on t web £20 posted or possibly collected from farringdon, tooting or central.check the specs of your machine and if you have 2 spare slots and 1333 not 1066 compatible
will not be available until end of the week when my 8gb turns up.

mixed with puke
spenceey, was on macupgrades and they say the mac version (not sure if it's different from the ebuyer one) costs approx 200.
http://www.macupgrades.co.uk/store/product_info.php?products_id=653
would go for alternatives, but my mac being on the verge of obsolence, in terms of chipset and speed, only the above graphics card is compatible supposedly.
