  • 2017 pro will be a better bet than a recent air imo. I’m going down this rabbit hole now, iPad Pro doesn’t recognise my usb ant+ dongle so I’ve just had to spend another £50 on an ANT+-Bluetooth bridge from the states (so likely + customs too) in order to get everything talking to each other.

  • Thankfully I'm running a 4iiii pm on classic trainer so looking for Bluetooth and not concerned about ant+

  • Out of curiosity why would an older pro be better than a 2 years younger air?

  • i can get a refurbished 2017 ipad pro within budget, or a 2019 ipad air

The 2019 Air is pretty much a rebadge of the 2017 Pro. The Air has a slightly newer, faster processor, but the Pro has a better camera and speakers. I'd get whichever one is cheaper, or probably the Air if they're the same price.

  • Random question and probably the wrong thread (as usual). I hope to be off work for three months on furlough and I’m considering things I could be doing to pass the time. Has anyone any experience of on-line touch typing courses? I think it would be a useful skill. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thank you @grams and @JonD

  • Jeez it's a proper rabbit hole once you start digging! I'm now also considering used macbooks (air and pro). It looks like the air had bluetooth 4.0 from mid 2011, and pro from sometime in 2012. Are these machines going to be obsolete in the near future, or are they likely to be powerful enough to run zwift and do a bit of browsing for a few more years?

I don't suppose anyone on here has a macbook or ipad they're looking to flog?

  • They won’t be obsolete but they won’t be much good either.

Surely you can get a newer Mac for £500?

  • Actually yes. I have an iPad Pro 10.5 which I’m looking to sell for £250 + postage. It’s in very good condition, the battery just doesn’t last as long as it did - now it lasts about 6-7hrs. You'd probably want to plug it in while you're zwifting. I'll PM you with more details in case you're interested.

  • Got my 17 and 18 pros confused!

  • Looking at my Pro, how do you tell the year?

  • 2018 it appears. Is that good?

  • Sounds broken, want me to dispose of it for you?

  • Wife has a 2nd gen ipad I fired up last week to see if that could do zwift. Turns out it can't really do much more than browse the web anymore, very few supported apps, which is a shame as its immaculate

  • Pretty good testament to apples hardware design. 9 years is a long time

  • 32gb cellular one too, can't have been cheap!

  • I've been using my iPad Pro for Zwift, on a mount that screws into my camera tripod, works really well - Tacx connects via Bluetooth, as does my HR strap.

  • All sorted, ipad pro purchased from @JonD

While I'm pissed on feeling spenny maybe now is the time to go all in and upgrade my android phone to an iphone too!

  • If only I had an iPhone to sell as well!

  • Yep, mine’s only just reached the point where it’s starting to refuse ‘basic’ apps...it won’t run Prime Video but happy with Netflix and the normal telly app offers.

Really isn’t a bad run though, and certainly shows new ones are extremely unlikely to become obsolete within a year or two - looking at the new Air as a replacement, seems to be an ideal mix of price and performance.

  • Wait a few days, there's a new iPhone about to be released apparently. A low end one but with new internals still. Should mean the others sell a bit more cheaply even if you're not fussed about getting the new one

  • Zwift setup:

  • Don’t think you’re going to get reliable HR data with that set up.

  • @6pt cant get his to work
