This sort of thing would be a lot easier it is true, but I hate the hardware.

Yep, I bought an iPad from refurb a few weeks ago. The only difference is a plain white box, rather than a picture of the product on the front. There’s also a link through Topcashback if you do that kind of thing. Currently at 2% cashback.

Yes, and I admit I assumed that the disc would be formatted correctly as it's an "exclusive to Apple" LaCie 1TB SSD.
I imagine I'm about to be told that I have been played for a sucker by Apple, and that the same drive is available for £25 from Amazon, correctly formatted, whilst the one I have is formatted incorrectly.

Does it show up if you plug it directly in to a Mac?

Formatted it as MacOs Journalled, plugged it in, now appears. Boom.
Thanks Corny - clearly the lesson here is assume nothing.

exFAT is optimized for flash drives—designed to be a lightweight file system like FAT32, but without the extra features and over head of NTFS and without the limitations of FAT32.
So formatted sensibly as it’s an external hdd.
Apple is finicky about these things as it impacts security, which is a good thing. Sure it’s annoying but there’s a good reason for it.

What’s the recommended music ripping software, and cd/dvd burner? Might have some time to myself during lockdown so may as well start working through the collection.
I probably asked this question a while back when I lost all my music and then didn’t write down the responses so apologies if I’m making you do the hard yards twice..

Used to be toast but that was about 5 years ago.

Yeah you can get in the sea!

Thanks for reminding me. -

Every-time someone asks a question on here all you chime in with is “obvious Apple answer”. Yet when you ask a question, you get a serious, reasoned and thoughtful response, which you then never take on board when responding to anyone else’s questions.
Which is why you get, get in the sea when you tell me to use iTunes. As it’s all i’d expect from you.
I’ve got iTunes, my music library is in iTunes. I’m looking for alternatives. You telling me to use iTunes isn’t any help. -

Just don't engage, Corny...

Like I said, check out XLD. It's free, and it's very good for lossless rips etc.
Or, you know, just use iTunes / Music. Which you already have, and which does a really good and speedy job of ripping CDs, adding them to your library and downloading covers for you.

Talk to me about ipads. I've never owned an apple device, but realising that an apple device might be the easiest entry to zwift. I've also been looking for a device for a bit of internet browsing for a while as I don't actually have a personal pc and prefer not to use work computer.
I'm thinking my best bet is some form if ipad, but extremely unsure as to whether to get a cheap used one, genuine refurbished or brand new. Budget maybe 250 for used, and up to 500 if i can get 0% finance through apple.
If going with refurbished/new, i can get a refurbished 2017 ipad pro within budget, or a 2019 ipad air. Is a 2017 pro likely to be outdated sooner?

You can get finance in the apple refurb store if that helps. My girlfriend was new to the ipad but i can never get near it now . Very easy to use and set up.

I can’t find an answer online so sorry but I’ll ask here.
Nike Apple Watch Series 3 - Did it get the ability to download playlists from Spotify?
I have to admit I find Mac's frustrating. I have an external SSD, thought I'd plug it into the AirPort Extreme to use over the network - can I make it work, can I buggery. Seems in the world of Apple it either just works, or you need to wade through multiple contradictory web-pages, where it's common to find a "just open the external drive tab" instruction, when there is no such tab available.
