Just treated myself to a 5K LG display. Because why not. Egpu set up is near complete.

Apple and passwords continues to fuck me off.
You get that thing where it says "do you want safari to remember your password?" and it works most of the time, but every so often it seems to forget them, and you have to request new passwords.
It defies logic. either it remembers passwords or it doesn't. I've been logging into British Gas to submit my meter readings for years, and BFI to buy tickets, but this weekend I've had to request new passwords for both because my MacBook has suddenly decided not to autofill them. -

Grateful for any help...
I've got a 2011 macbook pro. Still going strong, but iphoto, which I use heavily is getting really slow. Price of the new ones had put me off replacing it.
Question 1: Is there a way I can put all of my photos on a hard disk (deleting them off my computer), then plug the disk in and see everything in iphoto organised as I can see them now?
Question 2: Macbook pro 13" on currys for 1099 (instead of 1449 on apple - looks to be same spec). Should I just pull the trigger and replace my current one, or will apple be updating this with something I should consider holding out for?
Cheers for any advice

should be a case of just moving the library file to the new HD
-
• #11683
right, thank you, just been googling saving iphoto library file - after all this time I didn't even realise you could have multiple and separate libraries, hadn't even occurred to me. This is embarrassing..
cheers 7up

A 1. Yep. Go to Home > Pictures and copy "Photos Library" over to HD then delete, launch Photos app it'll ask where your library is, direct it to it.
A 2. That looks to be last gens base model, the newer version is cheaper than that originally was (1,249.00) but come with half the storage so thats still a great deal IMO. I have the higher end model and it makes my 2013 MacBook Pro feel slow and badly put together.

Apple and passwords continues to fuck me off
I'm ok with 99% of third party website passwords. It's the apple ones that kill me. I had to reset my apple ID password AGAIN last week because not sure why. Just had to again. Did that on my phone I think but this morning itunes is refusing to work on my MBP and insists that the new password is incorrect and has locked me out and invited me to reset it again. I just double checked and it's definitely correct. I'm running out of insults.

THINK i've resolved that adware pop up issue using an app called malwarebytes.
Malwarebytes is a 30 day free trial, and will download a file titled
mbam.dmg (or something similar) to your downloads folder. Open that
and install it to your applications, and then open Malwarebytes from
there, and choose to 'scan.' It'll show you a list of any
Adware/Malware files that it finds, and then restart your Mac for you
in order to remove them. Here's the link for the download:

Sorry, spammed a lot of threads with sales, we talking iMac? Sold for 850, which is a bit less than its worth I think.
-
• #11690
Yep, any dead pixels? That's a lot more than I was going to ask, glad I checked
Cheers

Nope none. Working perfectly. Going for more on eBay so asking less would be crazy.

Had a little play with a nTB 13" MBP today... seems like a very capable little machine and the screen is glorious.
I think PCI-E storage has really removed the main bottleneck - not quite as great a leap as going from non-ssd to ssd but still a jump.Seems like the best value of the current lineup and can be made into a mean desktop if you go down the external GPU route.
Keyboard seemed nice, actually.

2nd Edit: Working now, apple phone support got me to press a load od buttons and then power it up and it did on the 3rd try.
My MacBook Pro 2012 had shot a brick.
I think, that it thinks the lid is open when it's closed and closed when it's open, as the indicator light on the front shows lit when it's closed.
Any suggestions?
Edit apprwrwntly not that. Now getting this...
Worked fine before I went away 3 weeks ago.

My girlfriend has a mid 2012 MBP and it needs some upgrades due to the large image files she often works with.
While I'm putting in an SSD and bumping the RAM, If I put a second HD in a caddy, can it be used (solely) as the drive for time machine to save faffing around connecting external? Which she will never remember to do.
-
• #11696
it might be obvious but have you tried deleting the app and download it again? it's happened to me a few times and the only solution (if you can call it that) is delete and reinstall.

You mean to use the hdd that you will have taken out from the Mac, as an external drive? Or do you mean to replace the dvd drive with a second hdd and use that for time machine?
Yes with 1st option, no idea with 2nd option.
Time Machine is essentially a programme that saves stuff onto some external memory, so any hard drive will do.

I'm trying that now, thanks.

nope. didn't work

You can but it strikes me as a slightly daft idea... External drive(s) protect you from theft, drive failure and probably loads of other things I haven't thought of... Just put two SSDs in, I've got 1.5Tb in my late 2011 MBP now and it still flies like shit off a shovel...
After leaving it untouched for a month my MBP is saying 'no wifi hardware installed' and I've tried the nvram/etc resets. Any ideas? It did it before but just came back after I bought a wifi dongle.
On the plus side, the left shift key has started working again!
