All these low temp issues are a joke.
How can they offer premium phones that can't even handle mild frost?I still have my old iPhone 4 lying around (serving as a timer, mostly), remember running around with this at -18°C in Berlin years ago and it was totally fine (apart from the thing freezing to my cheek).
Got a 5 that showed the swollen battery problem (to a degree that one would have thought, when pressing on the screen, that there's a sachet of ketchup inside).
Got another 5 now and have to charge it every day, while all I'm doing is mailing, very little browsing / chatting / phone calls and like one hour of music when communting.
Nonsense. -

Ah that doesn't bode well if they aren't repairing older macs now from 2011 as thats what mine is too. Hurry up and drop the new better Macbook pros that aren't shit.

whats the last macbook with an optical drive? my sister is after a 2nd hand one as her 2008 macbook won't work with the ipod she's just bought (hers is too old for the latest OS).

Get an external one, cheap on amazon

• #10708
Also, is she picking her laptop based on her iPod?
-
• #10709
kind of. she has a new ipod touch and is (like me, i'm afraid) wedded to the idea of large capacity ipods carrying around a large chunk of a physical music collection at all times.
aside from itunes to organise the music, she's gonna browse the net and thats it.
should she get a 2nd hand mac, or just a cheap windows laptop? She has a budget of about £300. -

Old macbook air? no idea if you can get on for those monies, but it should meet the requirements
(I used to carry all my music around as well and hated the idea of Spotify etc when it arrived. I still have an external hdd on my desk with my whole mp3-library but I haven't touched it for about two or three years... Spotify has completely changed the way I think about ownership and interface with music, but that's probably for another thread...)

the last one is 2011 I think, the 13inch was still around until last year I believe, though I am not sure if they were 2011 model or if any minor upgrades were done to them.
For £300, you'd lucky to get a decent Air, or you'd end up with a really old one that's probably not worth your bother. Get a refurbished Dell or sth, when my Macs got stolen, I looked at getting a PC to tight me over an had my eye on very decent specs Dell for £255... cant find the link now again, but I am sure a bit of googling would get you some results.

I looked around for a relative with similar budget a few months ago.
Sure you can get an old MacBook that will do the job just fine, if it's not bothering you / her that it's still HDD and also most probably the battery will be so run down that you can basically only use the thing plugged in. -

But it means you don't have to worry about the scary radiation when you have your phone next to your head!
Stupid scam.

Just found out Apple have killed off the 11" Air, just as mine is starting to show its age. It's the perfect on the fly editing machine for me.
I guess I'll see if I can fine a second hand one of the last gen available, any suggestions? Gonna be a bugger cause I do need that 8GB ram upgrade.
I'd really prefer not to get an 13" one. Too big.

Next MacBook. Gotta be soon...

lulz

Even the base current gen Macbook 12" is certainly faster than your old Air will have been. Smaller and lighter too...

This is their way of trying to sell more iPad Pros.
This works. Did something similar with Steve Jobs' address years ago that ended up with a GPU update to the 1st gen Mac Pro...
