  • @Airhead, I'm already running an SSD in it, so not sure that's the issue.
@Well_is_it will check the RAM, for any red lights.

Might be one of my drives, cleared out some space on one, and the glitchy thing has abated. Might need to swap out that drive for a new one..

In the process of copying stuff over to a NAS but wanted to do a clean up first, will speed that up when I return from holiday..

  • Ha. Seen that. Would buy. But it's daft having normal ssds.

Caaaam on Apple you cunce I've got money I need to spend, make me a blaaaady powerful pro desktop.

  • Nah fam, SATA for bulk storage. It has NVMe for fast stuff. Pretty sure theres about 10-too-many ports than any existing chipset though. Also, off the shelf GPUs in the chimney design is a bit... odd.
They really need to make something like this.

  • I got given a new iphone 6s a few months back.
It's started just turning itself off for no reason, then refusing to turn back on till plugged into power (battery is fine).
And the touch ID is so temperamental.

Pretty fed up with it. Are these known issues or is it me? Thinking of just returning the thing.

  • There's an issue with some batches and Apple are doing a battery replacement programme for them.

  • Also, it's cold at the moment. My phone dies after a few minutes outside until it warms up. Apparently that's normal though and they won't do anything about it.

  • Is there somewhere I can search for my serial?

Does anyone else find touch it hit and miss? And if my hands are a little sweaty, total usless.

  • As above, the battery a known issue that they're doing a replacement programme for. I took mine in before Christmas, and now it's perfectly behaved. Same with the wife's.

  • I find if its rainy, touch id doesn't work. The slightest bit of moisture trows it off.

  • the touch ID is handy but you are right, you finger has to be dry and grease free. For me the only times that the touch ID doesn't work is straight after I have put some hand cream on. Otherwise, it's been pretty good.

  • Okay thanks guys. Maybe my hands are just oily a lot and it's my finger.
I'll take in in for battery replacement (I got Applecare+ anyway) and bitch about the fingerprint at the same time!

  • Is Applecare+ essentially an insurance product?

  • Is there somewhere I can search for my serial?

Go to Settings -> General -> About ..scroll down a bit..

  • I think so.
I got bought it, because I go through phones like cookies.

  • Cold as in actually cold or uk cold? I've been using my 6s in -18 and it's been working as normal. Sounds like I've been lucky with the battery I got?

  • Mine used to zonk in low single digits (but only ever once unlocked, never on the lock screen (so once I cottoned on I'd warm it up before unlocking it and use watch for notifications and labourious texting while it was cold)). It was fine down to -8 or so last week in Denmark.

  • Yeah, not even your version of cold. It shuts off in 5-6 c.
I have to keep it in an inside coat pocket.

Only happens during use. Physics dictate the battery can't deliver X amount of current at those temps and the metal body transfers heat a little too well.

This is why plastic (android) is sometimes the right material.

  • That said, today was a massive clusterfuck for the battery. Wake up, unplug phone, work all day, get on train at 70%, watch film, get home on 60%, film back on in background - 5 mins later phone drops to 10%. Not even cold.

  • Just my recent experience and predicament with Apple..

The logicboard on my 2011 macbook pro died on the 29th December and the repair program Apple issued for them ended on the 31st December. I couldn't get a Genuis bar appointment before the 31st. So I called Apple, explained the situation and the manager said everything will be fine as I had reported the issue to him and to book an appointment at the Apple store for after the 31st.

I go to the Apple store on the 4th Jan, they confirm the logic board has failed and would be covered by the repair program. But, my 2011 macbook pro has gone 'vintage' meaning Apple no longer service/repair them. This meant the system would not allow them to book it in for repair. The guy at the genius bar spoke with a manager in the back and all they could do at store level is offer £350 off a new mac. I told them I will contact Apple to what they will offer.

I spoke with Apple yesterday on the phone and they couldn't offer anything other than £150 credit for anything off the website that isn't an ipad, mac, iphone, gift card etc, so basically an accessory item.

I am left with a laptop that no longer functions. Instead of going in an getting it repair for under the repair program I am just left with the option of spending £2k+ to get a replacement 15" mac book pro.

Should I tell the store I want a bigger discount? does that seem fair? Best case scenario would be a sum of money on a gift card so I can buy a 2015 15" mac book pro from the refurbished store.

  • That's fucking bullshit dude. Escalate!

  • Let me expand on that silly statement. I'm in the same position as you, essentially. Same machine. I've already had the replacement motherboard just over a year ago but know of people who have had more than one... It would be worth (in this case, seeing as you were on deadline) raising it with someone higher up just to see if it will help.

On the other hand, the laptop has lasted 6 years...

  • Tim Cook's email is just tcook@apple.com

Emails go to their regional customer relations aka complaints teams or whatever fancy name they call themselves. I got good results before.
