  • ^^ I just googled the two materials

  • Incidentally after I wrote that, I saw the silver card at home, went to the office, paid the "handling fees" and picked it up yesterday.

It's awesome, well fitted, colour look nice, really long (finally) and feel very comfortable, looking forward to the cold days as I'm fed up of having short sleeve merino cycling top, will order a short sleeve version soon in the near future.

Can confirm sizing is generous (medium as pictured), but does not mean it's too big, a Rapha's medium fit me perfectly.

Update - 1400k audax ride and they perform brilliantly.

Even on the last day where it was 34 degrees in Cambridgeshire, it still feel comfortable despite being a little bit whiffy (short sleeve version).

  • I've just signed up for their newsletter and i'm itching to place an order (my bamboo shirts aren't cutting it at all). When did they last send out a newsletter? Have they had a discount code since January?

  • Bought some ethical, environmental, humanitarian base layers (^; good so far) and now i find myself killing moths on sight. What kind of monster have i become?

    IT'S WAR!

    +1

  • I got two of these delivered yesterday sized 'Large' for my 42" chest, it was way to big and baggy and the neck was as wide for two heads to fit through. So they are back in the post today for a medium size, I'm hoping they will work out better as I don't have any other options for the money.

the torso is a really wide tub, whilst arms are a bit on the tight side.

the effect is that the armpit of the garment is nowhere near my own armpit and instead ends up way down somewhere on the inside of my upper arm. lifting my arm up makes the whole garment lift up in a weird way.

  • Why do you need two? Get a single Rapha one for slightly more and wash it once or twice a week.

  • My PX merino tops are a great thickness for my needs. But at 5'7" the XLs are crazy long.

  • Don't do what I did last autumn and mistake the Classic long-sleeve baselayer for a proper cycling baselayer. It's not, it's an expensive t-shirt. :(

  • Should I buy one rapha merino polo shirt or two wiggle ones? Bearing in mind that it'll get worn on an almost daily basis.

  • 2x Rapha obvs.

  • Sale on at finisterre till midnight tonight. Lots of baselayers etc. http://www.finisterreuk.com

  • proper good they are too

  • And someone "on here" works for them.

  • I bought a Planet X / On one merino baselayer - really impressed. Incredible value at £30.

  • How does it compare to rapha ones? (assuming you have one).

Most people say how amazing the rapha ones, but i've been completely happy with the planet x ones i have so never felt the need to spend more to find out.

  • I read in the Rapha thread that the on-one ones were similar to the Endura BaBa, which in my experience are thicker, and not quite as nice.

But I would think the Rapha ones would be a lot more fragile tbh.

  • I have both, Rapha feel much nicer, but definitely not fragile.

  • Laner, It's not quite as soft as the Rapha ones, but other than that it's completely indistinguishable. I've worn Rapha ones for the last 4 years, but they've all fallen apart or developed perma smell recently.

It's aslo a MILLION times better than the DHB merino baselayer I own - which is awful (shrunk immediately, holds smell, is incredibly thin). Will definitely be buying more PX ones now.

  • Cool, i can go back to feeling smug then :)

  • Add me to that party :)

  • I've read good and bad things about the on-one stuff, so might be that you're lucky with a good batch?

  • I've bought a couple of baselayers every year for the last few years, and all have been fine.

  • who knows. I think all companies have quality control issues at some point - I've got some Rapha stuff that's just disintegrated. I also think that some people are kinder to gear than others.

At half the price of other brands, I'm willing to take that punt I think.

  • I have 2 plain black PX merino LS jerseys. One worn once, the other unworn. I think they are large, maybe XL. For £40 I'l, stick both in the post for someone.

Frankly I hate them. The fit is horrible on me (too long), and as they are of a weight that means winter use. I have to layer wind/rain/snow layers over the top. Which means the rear pockets are just annoying.
