  • yah bit of a scandal. especially as it looks like the pc's were higher spec than the xbox one.

mind, I've just been playing Borderlands 2 on PC. It's soooo much better than PS3. Only getting a PS4 for exclusives, think I'll stick to PC gaming

  • oh and I figured out how to transfer PS3 saves to PC so I can continue where I was

  • Yeah but I do like to sit on the sofa and chill out to play a game. Don't always like hiding myself away playing the PC.

  • I wish there was some way to keep the PC hidden away in another room while using it to play games on the living room TV. You can use steam in big picture mode without a mouse or keyboard, and plenty of PC games play perfectly well with a controller these days.

It'd be like cloud based-gaming, just on a smaller scale and with no latency problems. I'm sure the technology is capable, just need some way to make it happen.

Maybe I should set up a kickstarter? $$$$$$$

  • Regarding the xbox e3 demos, it's very unclear exactly what was running on PCs. It certainly wasn't everything, and I've seen one report that it was just a single xbox-live arcade demo whose publisher had opted to use the PC. Truth is possibly somewhere in between.

More amusing is that the PC that had crashed was using nvidia graphics hardware rather than AMD, and instead of windows 8 (which the xbox OS is apparently based on), windows 7.

    Yes I'd love this.

Steam big picture, wireless HDMI but with no latency.

I was even considering making a new TV cabinet that could easily hold my PC case so it wouldn't look fugly just sat next to the TV.

The latency from a wireless controller (I imagine it would be over wifi if it's in another room) would be the biggest issue. If you're willing to cable (even cable to a wireless receiver sitting on/near the TV), however, it's quite doable.

  • Brun and horatio

Thinking about this logically there isn't many/any wireless solutions available yet.

Your best bet may be - http://lifehacker.com/5918457/hdmi-over-ethernet-adapter-extends-hdmi-connections-up-to-98-feet-saves-money

Which turns your HDMI cables to ethernet then back again at the other end. It would mean you could chase the cables through ceilings as you normally would.

Your only other problem then is the controller signal - which you could fix with a USB cable to the wireless receiver and run that the same way as the ethernet.

All in all a pretty cheap solution. Although I wonder if you suffer latency over long hdmi/ ethernet cables.

A quick search says 5m of USB cable is fine before latency becomes an issue. But I'd do essentially what you've described (although those HDMI to ethernet adapters may have their own issues).

  • They seem OK actually reading the reviews;

    Neet® - HDMI Extender over Cat5 / Cat5e / Cat6: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Can use up to 30m without a power adaptor, after that you'd need one each end.

The controller aspect looks as though it could be more of a problem.

  • Well, i've finally ordered the new PC. Should be here next week. So excited/can't wait.

Aaaaand, because it's little, I could just leave a spare HDMI next to my TV, and bring it down for some steam big picture.

Not as fancy as chasing wires through a ceiling, but win/win in my book.

  • I live in a small apt, so my living room is split into office and lounge. PC sits between desk and tv stand. So I have it connected to both my monitor and TV. Only issue I have is the PC insists that HDMI must be monitor 1 and DVI is monitor 2. You cannot change this with Nvidia. Gah.

Also have Xbox controller, although wired. So playing PC Borderlands 2 with everything on max looks awesome on a 46" TV.

  • GoG have Torchlight 1 for free

    http://www.gog.com/gamecard/torchlight

  • Awesome ill grab that later.

Read something about ps2 earlier that really was the best console.

  • hmm my brother said it wanted money for Torchlight

perhaps only a US deal ? Try a VPN

  • I can get it for free here

  • ok well my brother is IT challenged

  • Just bought Sim City 2000 and DeusEx as well. Well behind the curve !

  • ^^ After registering it asked me for money, but I clicked back, and it went free again.

Ordered / checked out fine too.

  • So I've checked the cashback account this morning and it looks as though that may just pay for the PS4.

Now to convince Mrs. Spenceey we need one. So long as it's got netflix that shouldn't be that hard.

  • Don't think this has been mentioned yet:

    Mirror's Edge Announcement Teaser Trailer - Official E3 2013 - YouTube

    Can't.

    Fucking.

    Wait!

  • I finally got around to playing Mirror's Edge a couple months ago. I really enjoyed the running and parkour aspects of it but, fuck me, the gunplay was horrible.

I hope the second one makes some improvements. I would like a more open world - those levels were far too linear. it would be nice to have some choices and different routes to get places. The world was also incredibly empty, I'd like a more populated dystopian city, please.

    And no guns.

  • Gun was useless I agree, I don't really understand why it was there in the first place. The counter system was a little tricky to get used to also. Still, great to hear they're actually making it!
