That and I'm a massive sweatbeast.

Monza's are much thicker with smaller vents. IMO Giro helmets are a rip off given the fit and quality of Kask / Bell etc.. I liked mine and it saved my life, but would never pay £120 for one again.

Generally averse to paying more than £70 for helmets these days as I seem to go through one a year for various reasons (3 in the last year.. FML).

Kask Mojito's are great. Light, plenty of ventilation and for my large noggin don't look too 'special'.
They are the choice of many in the office, as are Prevails (but they look stupid on me). YMMV.

What helmets dont make your head look massive?
I tried a few Giro ones and felt ridiculous, I liked the catlike whisper but it didnt feel great on my head. Other options sub £100?
Lazer 02 is a good option for fatheads

What's the groupthink on POC- specifically the Octal?
-
• #583
I'd love an Octal, but fuck £200
-
• #584
I'd rather have the specialized.
-
• #585
I've had Prevail type lids for years now, and a) they tend to sit on my head wonky and b) I rather fancy a change.

If POC made a MIPS road helmet I'd buy it. I have the trabec for off-road and it's amazing, and MIPS (which reduces torsional neck injuries) is a great idea.

The Kask mojito is very nice.
I'd go with an aero design, like the infinity. But I have little need for vents.

My mojito makes my head look fucking huge. As bonkers as it sounds, my hair was really long when I got the helmet and a medium didn't fit, so I went for a large - which is huge for me... Suffice to say it needs to be replaced.

A lot of this is Down to head size vs face size. I have a smallish face but a size 60 head. So basically any helmet will look pretty big.

Their road helmets are super ugly. Garmin team look ridiculous with those and their Aviator style glasses.
Happy with my Mojito. Suits big head well, although the only cap I can fit under it is an Assos rain cap, which is obviously too hot for anything but cold and wet weather. Might get something else with a little more room too.
Thought the Specialized ones looked kind of funky before, with the mouth thing, but warming to them now. Agree that Giro feels a bit cheap and not as technical as others, although their Large is very roomy for caps etc.
Edit: Tried on the Specialized Propero and Prevail. Both were a bit rubbish. Fiddly retention system and quite bulky. Mojito much better.

Buyers logic.

I popped into Kinoko after work and subjected the Kask and Catlike helmets to the "wobble test", said test involving sticking the skid-lid on my bonce and then seeing if it stayed centred after a bit of a shake, or ended up at a rakish, showbiz angle.
All of the Kasks failed, as did the Catlike Whisper, but the Mixino passed- possibly due to being available in a 55-57cm size, which suits my 56cm head.
Now- where to get one for cheaps?

Mixino in black/red is discounted on the kinoko site?

Cheap, but they've got the sizes wrong, which is a concern.

£127.50 at Wiggle is the best I've got so far.

don't Prendas have good deals on Catlike helmets?
-

Nice spot- they have the black and red one for £119.

Aren't the aerodynamics horrendous on those things?
We have a Giro Monza as a spare at home but I tried this weekend and it's not so vent-y to me. The Atmos looks better but but about 50% more (£123) than a Whisper (£80).
I wonder if there are assumption made about the rider's head positioning when it comes to the road helmets - as in always on the hoods or drops - so ventilation is designed for that. I tend to ride quite upright so I wonder if that is half of the problem.
