  • Um, no emails to the membership list show a meeting tonight. Anyone else?

  • Ah, sorry peoples, no meeting tonight. I haven't been able to see this until now. I still think we should wait until Bill gets back. Having the Chair or President or whatever we call it present at all meetings is important.

  • nice one gabes. Also, i know you are thinking of the closed forum to members only, but we need to make issues which affect London Bike Polo aware to non-members too somehow. Can this be addressed please?

That already happens though. Dont confuse London Bike Polo with the LHBPA. There is a need for a specific LHBPA members forum. Youre absolutely right, in that the forum should have the power to make binding decisions in the right circumstances. It doesnt have to replace the real meetings. But it should be open only to registered LHBPA members.

London Bike Polo exists on here already in that form. Its a Community. Its inclusive. We have those votes and debates all the time, and theyre extensions of the debates we have every time we play, and they feed back into the things we discuss next time we meet. It doesnt need improving because it works already

I wasn't, and I purposely wrote London Bike Polo as it is important to keep it separate from any issues that the Association have. Just as the league is separate from the Association. But most things that come through the Association affect LBP in some way, such as this latest issue. By keeping non-members informed at least, we could have avoided this. E.g. the first I heard about half the community being excluded was the thread 3 days ago as opposed to 4 months. I think its fair for us to raise a question in this instance.

    I 100% agree with you :)

If we make all issues open to non-members then there is a privacy issue with how the association can interact with other bodies/companies. It's a bad idea in general and very unprofessional, perhaps an alternative could be some sort of separate summary/info that's posted to the public domain (this is more work though)?

  • A public summary of meetings would be nice.

  • Blogroll? That's be easy enough and everyone could RSS it straight to their phone/comp/etc?

    (Thinking out loud.)

  • not a bad idea.

I didn't say all issues. Of course there are going to be things which affect the Ass only. But things that effect LPB should be made open before decisions are made behind closed doors!

  • We've been having trouble scheduling a meeting. I suggest that we have our next meeting at our traditional time, which is last Monday of the month at 8pm. That would be March 29.

We need five board members for a quorum. Can we have a list? All others are welcome to attend. You can come pay your membership at the meeting if you want (£5 per year).

    Committee:

    1. Vidal
      2.

  • I can't do that date.

On another note, I watched The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus the other night, The Horseshoe is in it!

Exactly. Its one of the reasons I want to make the LHBPA more transparent. Not only will it help avoid us making this kind of mistake (yet) again, I'm also hoping that by allowing people to see what the LHBPA does for polo, and how hard the members work sometimes, they'll want to be involved and be able to contribute.

I just want to nail this one.

There is no reason why LHBPA minutes (including minutes of committee meetings) should not be published to the web. Not to do so, contrary to what Jono says above, is a bad idea and very unprofessional. Publishing minutes is standard practice for any public or representative body that you care mention.

    Eg http://www.northdevonfootballleague.org.uk/minutes0809.php http://openlylocal.com/documents/17805-Minutes-for-Overview-and-Scrutiny-Management-Committee-meeting-Oct-19-2009-1-00PM http://66.102.9.132/search?q=cache:C0LHFNF8iP0J:new.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/bc_files/mtb/BMX_Commission_Meeting_Minutes_February_2009.doc+british+cycling+management+committee+meeting&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

Now let's be clear: minutes are NOT a verbatim transcript of all discussions, but they are a record of what decisions have been taken.

If anyone has a problem with this, then they probably should not get involved with the LHBPA, or any other representative or public body.

  • I didn't say all issues. Of course there are going to be things which affect the Ass only. But things that effect LPB should be made open before decisions are made behind closed doors!

The agenda for any official meeting of the LHBPA should be published a week before the meeting. Once again, this is standard protocol.

  • Minutes is fine... "all issues" is not. I was referring to the potential to piss of councils or sponsors if you bring their development/strategy thoughts into the public realm.

  • Need one more Committee member for quorum.

    Iain, Andy, Roxy, Mike?

  • My folks are in town that weekend - i'll come to make up the quorum, but only if no-one else can make it that night.
