  • He didn't steal it, he bought it from Found Sound in Melbz... Hipster haven! But I get your drift...

  • Got the itch for a new axe, after 6 years of happily playing what I have. The rickenbacker is going out, something classic like a 330 or 335 is coming in. Not entirely sure what yet as weighing them up.

I've noticed that I tend to buy the same types of guitar over time and just upgrade to higher spec/priced ones:

Started with a cheapo Westfield Sunburst Les Paul - that was given away and a couple of years later I bought a full fat Gibson sunburst Les Paul.

Had an Epiphone Dot in Cherry about 7 years ago - whichever of the 330 or 335 I get, it'll be in cherry too.

Guess thats what I like. The Rick was gorgeous, but it never really suited me. Much like my old white Jag which was also gorgeous, but didn't fit me right. That got flogged and replaced with the cherry dot, thinking about it.

  • Whats the thoughts on the 330 against 335?

330 - fully hollow, P90s - attractive as the hollow means I can play reasonable quietly and unplugged, yet at less volume than my acoustic (I'm a bit Townshendy as an acoustic player, so make a row) so its going to be useful as we've a newborn in the house. Is the feedback a huge issue that people make out? Especially when I can plug it in and wanna go full fuzz?

335 - less feedback problems, but how much volume will it out when played acoustically? My rickenbacker made a reasonable clang, so I'd imagine this is a bit louder as its double f hole compared to the single on a Rick?

Either way, I'm whacking a bigsby on it!

  • Anyone need a couple of bog-standard guitar stands? I really want them out of the house so I'd happily accept a couple of beers for them.

  • Where you based. Need one or two

  • IMO a 330 is probably one of the coolest guitars to have with a micro-Haino in the house as a) P90s > humbuckers and b) they sound really nice acoustically and c) the 16th fret neck join makes them much much comfier than a 335 for sofa use. For gainy stuff you can lessen hairiness slightly by bodging a removable soundpost below the bridge (I did), but having it run away with you is part of the fun, really. I remember using mine with a ludicrous D*A*M Mk2 and it provided some of the best giggles ever. Buy buy buy.

  • I love your 330...

Looks like I'm closing in on buying the stolen guitar, Kim has had fuck all luck with the Old Bill and gave me his final blessing to nab it tonight... He's gonna give the cops one last try tomorrow... No case so I've made the guy knock another $100 off, and it's in Sydney which is gonna make getting it to me up here a bit interesting... Neck off, loads of bubble wrap and into a box I reckon...

  • Missed this, yeah! Coronado II dot neck with a black headstock, find another one like it!! Impossible...

  • PS here's a video clip featuring the original Coronado II that got butchered to make the flame guitar... Early transition neck? 66-67 was when Fender changed to blocks on the Jag, no?

  • Top tune... just found Tym's blog about the guitar. Amazing find. Hope it arrives ok...

  • Get a Collings I-35 if you want the best 335/330 style guitar out there.

  • Nice, but cost twice as much as a Gibson. Who already cost enough in the first place! I'm working with budget from selling some other guitars, so gotta stay within that.

  • Fuck, that Scientists tune is great.

  • I'm supposedly working from home and have been torturing myself trying to play and sing some rufus wainwright tunes on guitar. Many chords. Much melody. Very sorry neighbours.

  • And yet only a couple of years on they had morphed into these greasy, scuzzy swamp monsters that was Scientists without the 'The'... Flame guitar stars in this video...

  • Love it.

Not strictly guit-related, but seeing as you're here, it payday today, worked from home and picked up some vinyl in the market here in Fav. There's two record shops and two regular stalls here now. Picked up a copy of Notorious Byrd Brothers, Liege & Lief by Fairport, With The Beatles (2nd pressing, mono), The Monkees first album and Old No.1 by Guy Clark.

  • How much? That little lot would set you back a small fortune out here... Vinyl is like gold here, everyone wants some all of a sudden...

  • Mixed bag. Fairport was fifteen, Beatles a tenner and Monkees a fiver from the market stall, all in good nick.

The Guy Clark was a bit of a splurge at £25 on its own from Creekside Vinyl but I'd been looking for it for a while. Byrds was £8 I think. Actually got that a week or so back but haven't played it yet.

  • vinyl thread>>>>>>>>

  • Allow it!!

  • Deal done, GF's sister is gonna pack it up and send it to me next week...
