Ampupdate!
Bass player scored a bargain Gallien Grueger on the bay. Paid £140 for one of the proper american made MB150E combos. It has a intermitent fault apparently but it just sounds like a faulty relay or switch so we figured for that money we'll just get it repaired. It's currently working and sounding great though.
My ZT Lunchbox acoustic plan has gone a bit off the rails though. Ordered it over the phone with a little shop in Derby on Sat afternoon, they told me they'd post it Monday. They rang yesterday to tell me my card was declined. I gave them another one, that too was declined. Rang the bank they assured me they were both approved and I had in fact paid for the amp twice now. Shop insisted I hadn't and got a bit huffy with me. Turns out the shop had just got my address wrong and the payments had been approved but stopped for security reasons. They told me to just order it online and they'd post it but I was reluctant to pay for the thing three times, if only temporarily, and by the time all this had been hashed out I'd missed the deadline to get it posted in time for my next gig.
Then with immaculate timing my boss told me my secondment to a senior role had ended and the accomanying 10% payrise was no more, effective of three weeks ago. Thanks for that.
Given that my missus was less than pleased when I told her I'd ordered it in the first place, I'm now totally conflicted as to what to do. I ordered it in the heady post-gig adrenaline rush of "I refuse to to be denied the tools I need to pursure my art!". But now in the cold light of day, having had words about spunking nigh on £400 right before Christmas, having had a pay-cut and not being able to get it in time for my one remaining gig of the year... things seems somewhat different. Damn you financial reality.

Oh great. Just had confirmation that the order I forgot I'd placed elsewhere for the padded carry case has been despatched.

Dude, did you see the amp? It's about the size of a six-pack of beer.... at least I'll have the coldest stash of trampaigne on skid row.

Has anyone ever traded guitars in at shops in order to buy a new one? How do you judge/work out what a decent trade in price would be?
Say if you have a semi-desirable guitar that's selling for about 500 on ebay/gumtree 2nd hand & you want to trade it in at a shop what would you expect to get?
The internet seems to be unwilling to yield dealer prices on guitars but I guess the mark-up must be around 50% on big brands - so would it be reasonable to expect store credit for around 750? Despite working with money every day my knowledge of retail practice is incredibly poor...

don't do it. they'll smell the desperation on you and offer you peanuts, hold out for a top dorrah ebay bidder.
/i lost a pre CBS fender P to buy party favors that way.

If it was going for £500, they'd likely offer you £300.

Probably not even that in cash - I once traded an electric for acoustic on Denmark St and got about 2/3rds of ebay value in store credit. Got a hard case out of them as well in the end but I think that was probably only as I knew someone working there...

Hmm - seems like they're not worth it then.
Was hoping to avoid dealing with the morons on ebay - selling on there never seems to go smoothly.
300 store credit would mean it's really only cost them 200 (assuming their 50% mark up on new) & I bet they'd then try to sell it for 600+...
Thanks for the advice!

Can anyone recommend a guitar repair/setup service in east london? I think I may have cracked my tele but I want to save it if possible!
-
• #2368
^^Alternative might be to have someone sell it on commission for 10%? But really, ebay is probs your best bet.
What is it you're selling/trading?

Plenty of recommendations for good repairers upthread. Just scroll back a page or two. Must be honest I don't know of any out east though.
Also, how on earth do you crack a Tele?

It's the Akai Deep Impact synth bass pedal I mentioned up thread a couple of months ago (based the forum question on a guitar to make it simpler) - I originally needed to sell it for money as I was skint but some other things sold that meant I kept it.
My current band/music project's sound doesn't really suit my 5-string Warwick so was looking to trade the pedal for some form of Jazz Bass.
I just hate ebay selling so trade seemed a good idea (though not if they offer peanuts).

I'm also curious about how this tele became cracked?!

do u even basschat.co.uk?

• #2373
I hadn't even heard of it - do they have memes?
I'll have a look tonight, I've always been a little wary of selling/trading on forums other than this one.

bitch please!
show me the t-shirts or gtfo.
I'm fine for stands thanks, although I have just remembered my banjo fell over at least twice at the gig on Friday. Poor thing. *must remember to take stands to gigs.
