  • I forked out for the Paul Davids Next Level Playing and I have to say I'm pretty impressed so far. I'm still working through it at present and am progressing from someone who could pick up a tune pretty well with tabs or online tutorials to gaining good knowledge and applying it.

The course forces you to figure things out for yourself it doesn't spoon-feed you, this works for me as it's the way I've always learnt the best.

    I would recommend it highly.

  • In music, everything is connected.

And learning about these connections and understanding the “how” and “why” behind the music actually makes it possible to become far more expressive and creative.

thanks @Bobbo reading Paul Davids intro for Next Level this statement really stood out.

  • Now first you should understand that I am very very new to electric after forty years of acoustic noodling.

Next is that the BOSS headphone system has spatial modelling such that wherever you turn your head or spin around, the thirty foot high virtual Marshall stack stays in the same place.

Finally, and this is very important: do not get mightily stoned, discover the above and rock out all over your spot lit garden playing Deep Purple volume (on your headphones, inaudible to anyone else) heavy riffs and grinning like a loon at almost half past twelve.

Your neighbour may look over from next door and ask, in a concerned manner, if you need assistance.

Actually the last paragraph didn’t happen, but now sat in the workshop wondering what the hell I would have said if he had. Better go to bed.

  • Is this any use to anyone? My hiscox hard case - I just used to use it for carrying my acoustic to / from building classes when I made it, so it's in almost brand new condition. Has both keys.

OM size, collection from Turnham Green tube station. Is £30 a reasonable price?

  • I've just bought the wireless expression pedal for my Boss headphones. Haven't tried it yet, but will be giving it a run through soon.

  • I’m sure autocorrect leapt in wearing a shiny cape when you typed that, but whut?

  • I've been scanning the post - I think it's correct!

Mines actually an OO, but think an OM would fit. Happy to measure if anyone's interested.

  • You carried your guitar to, and from, oh never mind. I’m being unfair (and don’t want to be). Looks a lovely case. Good luck with the sale!

  • I think you're misunderstanding and he built his own guitar?

  • Loving the learning chat. I haven’t had an irl lesson since leaving school. If I find myself in a rut, the way I try and get out is by picking a song or a technique that I’ve always found challenging and make it a project to get down. YouTube is so great for learning stuff these days but I have though about paying for a proper course.

  • sort of related,

in 2020 i had intermediate level ski lessons for the first time since 1992. of course i can ski black runs and off-piste have done for many years.. but honestly it was all without finesse or style.. what i learnt was a reminder that everyone can improve.

    just my thoughts

  • I’m ALL the finesse

  • I've got two rather nifty guitars I'm planning to sell at the moment if anyone here might be interested... I just need to wire up pickups and do a bit of setup and I'll take some pictures then...

    PRS Tremonti SE
    White w/ cream binding
Headstock refinished with PRS USA logo and natural finish
    Seymour Duncan Dimebucker at bridge
    Seymour Duncan 59 at neck
    Bigsby B50 vibrato
    Golden Age roller bridge
    Golden Age cream butterbean tuners
    StewMac Les Paul wiring kit

Squier Master Series Thinline Telecaster HH
    Roswell Charlie Christian pickups
    Kluson tuners
    Hi-Mass bridge

Drop me a DM or comment if they sound of interest to anyone... I need motivation to get them finished up and sold :)

  • Anyone want a Mimiq Mini £25 posted?
    I'm in Leeds.

  • Thanks but I actually ordered a neck at the weekend. Cheap and hopefully cheerful. I'm trying not to look at the headstock shape too closely...

  • ^^What's going on with the nut slot on that? There doesn't appear to be one?

EDIT, guess it's made for a locking nut?

  • I think it's for a locking tremelo system

  • Oh, I didn’t even notice that it wasn’t a standard nut when I posted. It’s for a Floyd R2 locking nut.

  • I did actually briefly consider turning my strat body into a EVH inspired super-strat. Decided against it, but if this build goes well, I may well do the next one with one HB, one knob and a floyd.

  • Good lesson from JDS. Love this dude.

  • that is education right there, thanks for sharing @fadooks

    less finesse, more primal
    play like a drowning man

  • Neck arrived. Impressed by the fretboard and fret job for the money.
