My Tym Seaweed has a Mk4 Tonebender and a Triangle Muff in it, it's also got a mid boost which I think makes the Muff sound a bit crap... I'm not a huge fan tho', much prefer a Tonebender if I'm honest...

Big Muffs can be finicky can't they. But I think that’s why I love the DBA Fuzz War (and why it’s so popular AFAICT), it’s basically a Big Muff with a fuller frequency range. Thick “wall of sound” kind of thing. That’s what I want from a BM.
I only recently started getting interested in Tonebenders, in no small part thanks to you I think. I’d never really given them the time of day but having tried a couple now, they can be aggressive in a really pleasing way.

I’ve always used Phillipe Dubrielle. Think he has his own workshop on Denmark St now.

What did you do, have a go with some wet & dry? Looks good...

I always felt Tonebenders had a much more focused sound than other fuzz pedals, which is why I loved them... And they could also sound like a heavily distorted amp if dialled in correctly, at least to my ears anyway...
I really wanna try a Fuzz Face, never had one unless the Roger Mayer Voodoo pedal was based on one? Jimi connection makes me say that... Didn't really like it, recorded with it once (YT link below) because it was the only working fuzz I had, the producer did a really good job of making me not sound shit.

^^^ Love that dude!
I was like, this is rad... kinda Cramps, kinda Butthole Surfers, kind Johnny Thunders... filthy. I dig it. I hope the singer's not shit cos that would ruin it. Well this is a long intro I hope the singer's not shit. Wait... this is an instrumental. AWESOME. *plays it twice.
edit: yeah just some medium grit sandpaper and a then a suede brush. Still struggling with the set-up on this thing. I can have the relief banana-like or flatty flat flat flat and the action super-super slinky or cranked up a good way, but bends on the high E above the 12th fret always seem to choke out. I think it might be because for 20 years I avoided the dusty end as a matter of principle and those frets are now higher than the worn ones below and are choking off the string. Bit annoying really. fret job def on the cards.

I've never owned a fuzz face either. Have hovered over buying the mini ones a few times. I think the Jimi silicone one was the best sounding to me.

Just re-read that and it sounds a bit insulting. Why would you have a shit singer? Wasn't meant to be. Soz.
I guess it's just that great singers are so fucken rare. So many time a friend or acquaintance has linked me to a thing they've done and i've been thinking "THIS IS AMAZING - WHY ISN'T THIS A HUGE DEAL?!" and then the singer starts and it's like "oh, that's why".
I include myself in this btw. Very much.

Thanks for this reco, I’ve been looking for a good London guitar tech. Guy I’ve been using recently is expensive and kind of lazy/careless IMO.

Think he’s moved back to France. At least he had six months ago, with no intention of returning.
The chap at creation studios in Kentish Town set up my PRS. He did a fine job although it wasn’t particularly onerous, so couldn’t vouch for anything complex. Stairway to Kevin in Denmark St seems to get very good reviews if that’s close enough, or Feline guitars if you’re further south.

Lozzles, don't be a Silly Billy, Al... Tony was the singer and his voice was the one thing that used to put people off the band, which was a bit of a tragedy because he's a fantastic songwriter... He's a great singer but has a very thin, reedy voice which seemed to rub people up the wrong way... Here's their track from the Sympathy Toerag comp, I'd left by this point ..

Welcomed in a 2016 American Professional Jazzmaster a couple of months back, Sonic gray which is definitely more blue in my eyes
Pickup switch seems to sometimes lose connection to the bridge pickup if I move the switch in a certain way (usually whilst playing and quickly switching) anyone know if that's a common issue with JMs?
Presume just pulling it out and replacing is the only method of fixing? -

Have you tried spraying contact cleaner in there and zapping the switch back and forward quickly a few dozen times? Maybe it's just dirty.
-
• #11797
Ah yeah, will try that first - bought it from someone that still had the sticker on it and pretty much unplayed, I think it was living in it's case... but perhaps dust has gotten in there

Starting a small pedal collection.
Boss RC-3 looper for fun and practice
Electro Harmonix Memory Boy deluxe (first impressions excellent)
TC Electronics Skysurfer reverb (not yet received) but has hall, spring and plate options which seem important.
The delay and reverb pedals were bought after watching Alamo Music Centre videos on YouTube, they didn’t specify these pedals but the two videos n using these to effects types with acoustic were simple to understand and demonstrated the pedals and effects brilliantly. Of course he can play a bit… -

I just got a single Grover tuner in the post from eBay. I knew the button was slightly different to those on the Hondo but it would have been a good enough match. Sadly the size of the button shafts seems to be different. I never knew Grover had changed them over the years. Mine is a left-hand one so I could move one button over to the missing one and replace a whole tuner. Nut from Tusq has also arrived, so I'll have a go at both those tonight. The nut will need a tiny 1mm spacer as the Hondo nuts were wider than Gibson ones.

That's lovely, I have a little hankering for a JM... They sound so bloody good...
I have one of the JHS-modded EHX Op Amp Big Muffs which does some of the same stuff (switchable gate setting and a mids knob added) in a smaller package but the Deluxe does more and would definitely be cheaper to buy now that JHS don’t do mods any more.
