  • cheers for replying.
yeah ended up borrowing an ehx germanium od, and then getting one off ebay for £33.
they are good for both 60s-esque overdrive, and really nasty, clipping sounds (voltage control), should be good through a nice amp!

got a refund on this, i wouldn't bother getting one if anybody ever considers it.
they can sound cool, but if you do so much as sneeze near the controls then your sound will go to shit, and without whacking everything up it sounds more like a clean boost than an OD.

  • did some recording with one of these (though a silverface bassman) last week. very cool guitar.

  • Forum online band in the style of youtube orchestra anyone?

  • brilliant idea Nahguavkire. What technology is required? Do we all add tracks or can we have live performances? We'd need to involve the drum and keyboard nerds anonymous threads too;)

  • ha. i'm a luddite when it comes to that stuff. if someone can manage the tech-bits i'd love to contribute.

  • had a night in tonight so i did another sketchy version of this new tune. first recorded evidence of the banjo i think. there's a stinky bv left in at about 2:18 i didn't notice until i'd uploaded it. only to be expected really as pretty everything other than the basic track of guitar/vocal was improvised in a couple of takes. hey ho, it's folk music. i may fix it later... (probably won't).

  • Sounding fantastic dude.

Let's sort this jam out soon.

  • Hey dooks that's cool
Where can we see you perform?

I have a nice powerful music PC with Sonar 8.5 on it, hooked up with an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O so I can sort out the tech stuff, tracking, mixing, arranging, editing, syncing with video, and all of that.

If we do this and need it I could buy Pro Tools M-Powered so I have compatible software with any studio.

  • Actually I came back to this thread because I've been searching online for a transparent vinyl guitar strap after seeing Alice in Chains on the TV.

They don't seem to exist anymore. Levy's used to do them but don't any more, so I was thinking of buying a roll of fridge door strip and making my own.

I'll have loads left over if I do it, plus it's a pretty expensive thing to buy just to get one guitar strap out of it, so I wondered if anyone else would be interested in one?

  • great Idea BQ
    I'd love one please:)

  • Right, I've ordered a strip of 3mm thick stuff. (complete with plates to hang it in the doorway of my walk-in freezer!) from which I should be able to cut at least 4 guitar straps.

  • can you cut me a pair of pants?

  • No but Teddy can.

  • I've been after a bass for home recording for some time and have toyed with the idea of something nice, but can't get my head around paying too much for something I won't use all that much

But have seen one of these in the flesh and it looks a decent quality - apparently they are made by Tokai in China - swap the electronics out and they are quite all right for the money - anyone had any experience?

  • Depends on your recording equipment but most cheap passive basses can sound pretty good when tweaked, I had a cheapo from thomann.de which cost half the price of a squire P but beat it hands down on every count in an a/b.

  • I would go somewhere to try them. I tried a bunch of basses around the £200-250 mark and they were all fucking awful except a Squier Jazz which was excellent (so I bought it). I think at low price levels there's a chance of getting a good instrument but you need to weed out some bad ones.

  • tried the awfully named Spector Rebop at sam ash in ny. fkn lovely it was, and now regret not spunking away the cash when i had the chance. fooooool!

  • Clear vinyl stuff just arrived. Complete with metal freezer door hanging thing!
It's good stuff, 3mm thick so it shouldn't tear. I'll be able to make a fair few straps with this, even after allowing for me cocking up the first few.

  • Nice one BQ. You know velo-re (http://www.velo-re.com/)?
They turn bike tyres into belts. Do you think tyres (thickish ones) would make Guitar Straps? We could suggest it to them...

Still got dibs on a fridge door vinyl one though

  • dont spose any of you terrible people have any bass OD pedals gethering dust? top dorrah paid!

  • I've got a sans amp that you can borrow if you change the band name to Four Dicks and a Fist?

  • well bearing in mind it's Rikkkie 'Three Dicks' Fredo - we're looking at Six Dicks and a Fist.
