  • I just wanted to post this.

  • Jean Alavoine run the last 10k's of stage 14 of the 1909 TDF with his bike over his shoulders to win the stage

  • I can't recall ever seeing one of those bikes being ridden before. I guess it does make sense that they would have smaller rather larger sizes, as you say.

    Still, quite a story!

I was in France last year for the tour and a saw the mavic car on display with all the bikes, they all looked like they'd been used a lot which I found quite surprising.

Also some of the team cars would have one or two bikes on it that had toeclips on. Suppose this might of been incase someone ripped a cleat out as I take it they would all use the same pedals in a team?

    Bill was there.

  • Was there a two up sprint, then a crash, rider first across line was relegated therefore second across line (with bike on shoulder) was awarded win? Or summink similar? Or was the rider so far ahead that when he had a mechanical he still had oodles of time to walk to the line?

    Getting close.

That I had forgotten about, but wasn't the answer I was looking for.

  • still owe me a beer tho

    :^]

  • Was it teenslain?

  • That I had forgotten about, but wasn't the answer I was looking for. I do not owe you a beer....move along....

  • was it teenslain?

    bang !!

  • I wonder if anyone could help me, you see, I was looking at all those chaps, five odd hours and ten odd litres, and no peepee stops?

Are they peeing down their own legs as they ride? Or wear nappies? Or do they sweat enough not to need peepee stops?

  • They just do a 'streaky twang'.

  • Was it teenslain?

    bang !!

    You bitches are sloooooooooow... ;P

They have 'comfort breaks' aka piss stops by the roadside. It's usually not on TV.. for obvious reasons.

I thought that was just for the commentators...

  • Sometimes you'll see a few riders stopping early in a stage and a few years ago Armstrong whipped it out at the front of the bunch before a climb, whilst being pushed by a teammate.

There's a story in Kimmage's book 'A Rough Ride', there's an incident he describes in the '86 Tour which may answer your question. He recounts that during one transition stage, he noticed Lemond being brought up to the front by his domestiques, and that Lemond was clearly suffering from diarrhea, the results of which were streaming down Lemond's legs.

Ok, tomorrow night? Always happy to help a senior out.

  • Just as, in the UK at least, there is only one Tennis tournament. Or the TV coverage would certainly suggest that.

    Shimano FTW

Blimey, what an essay. Will this incident lead to a re-engineering of SRAM componentry?

Zinn reckons it's do with the SRAM jockey wheels, but Schleck uses the modified varsion as designed by Wolfgang Berner

  • Fark, those jockey wheels are mahoosive! :O

Mate of mine's been upgrading to SRAM, seriously awesome kit...

There is a story about a domestique riding for Simpson who was wearing a smart new cap of which he was very proud being called over by Simpson who asked for his cap. He reluctantly handed it over only to see Simpson take a dump in it and then pass it back.

Alavoine's is a good shout for great riders that didn't win the Tour, but should have.

  • Ned Boulting collared one of the Saxobank mechanics on last nights highlights who said he'd managed to bend the chain catcher which was fitted.

Overdramatic quote of the whole strange saga..."If you draw your sword and you drop it, you die." - *Ryder Hesjedal *
